Position Overview
A respected Columbus area law firm is seeking an experienced Construction Litigation Attorney to join their growing Litigation Practice Group. This role involves representing commercial construction companies, developers, contractors, and other industry stakeholders in complex disputes including construction defects, payment claims, mechanics' liens, bond claims, and related matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Represent clients in all phases of construction litigation from pre-suit counseling through trial
- Draft and negotiate construction agreements including subcontracts, change orders, and general contractor agreements
- Provide strategic counsel on contract performance, risk management, and insurance coverage
- Advise clients on lien law compliance and enforcement procedures
- Analyze construction schedules, change order documentation, and delay claims
- Collaborate with expert witnesses on technical construction matters
- Develop and execute comprehensive case strategies while maintaining strong client communication
- Participate in business development initiatives to expand construction litigation practice
- Work with transactional, real estate, and business attorneys on intersecting matters
- Handle mediations and participate in trial proceedings
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
- Active Ohio bar license (or ability to waive in)
- Minimum of five (5) years of construction litigation experience preferred
- Strong understanding of Ohio construction law statutes and court procedures
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Practical knowledge of lien and bond rights, insurance issues, and risk-shifting provisions
- Detail-oriented and highly organized approach to complex case management
