Nurse Assistant

Under general supervision, the Nurse Assistant assists nursing staff in providing medical/administrative services as assigned. Position also assists in medical records management to include charting, filing, and medical records retention.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

MEDICAL:

• Takes and records vital signs.
• Prepares residents for various medical procedures.
• Contacts physicians, medical institutions, and specific individuals to obtain information necessary to insure adequate health care for residents as assigned.
• Schedules medical appointments.
• Teaches health and hygiene program to residents.
• Insures the confidentiality of all medical records according to HIPAA regulations.
• Performs routine maintenance of clinical equipment.
• Assists in daily resident med call and observe residents taking their prescribed medications.
• Coordinates HIV testing for residents.
• Organizes Prevents Blindness Program (Scheduling, getting appointments, following through with paperwork).

ADMINISTRATIVE:

• Updates medical files.
• Assists in conducting monthly inventory of medical supply cabinet in each section.
• Orders approved over the counter medication and supplies as required.
• Assists in the preparation of files for audit purposes.
• Assists in the preparation of medical reports as required.
• Performs medical billing as needed.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

1. Potential exists for exposure to disease/illness.
2. This is a minimum security facility therefore all outside access doors are locked at all times.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Ability to lift light to heavy objects.
2. Ability to stand and walk for a large percentage of the work day.
3. Ability to see and hear in order to carry out duties and responsibilities effectively.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

1. High school diploma or equivalent. Medical experience preferred. 2. Possession of current CPR Certification. 3. Knowledge of general first aid, treatment protocol orders; knowledge of inventory control; knowledge of the standard operating procedures and equipment of the Medical Department; knowledge of all emergency procedures; ability to follow specific instructions and guidelines. 4. Knowledge of general office procedures and use of computer. 5. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written reports. 6. Ability to gather, collect, and classify information about data, people, or things. 7. Familiarity with personal computers and standard software packages desired. 8.
