JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective

The Irrigation and Controls Specialist will be responsible for assisting in all aspects related to the care and maintenance of vegetative and flowering plants. Focus will be split between daily analyzation of the plant conditions and monitoring of environmental, lighting, and irrigation controls of the greenhouse. This position will work with the Plant Health and Controls teams to develop and implement environmental and irrigation strategies with the goal of producing crops in line with Buckeye Relief's established quality standards.

1. Monitors plant conditions daily
2. Monitor environmental and irrigation control system
3. Assist in the development and implementation of environmental and irrigation control strategies
4. Performs routine cleaning and preventative maintenance on equipment
5. Maintains fertigation systems, including mixing fertilizer tanks
6. Collects, compiles, and analyzes irrigation and environmental data. Produce reports from this data at the conclusion of each harvest
7. Assists with horticultural experiments
8. Assists with other cultivation tasks when necessary. i.e. pruning, transplanting, and moving plants
9. Assists with any department construction projects as needed

Work Environment This job operates in a climate-controlled greenhouse growing environment and high-tech irrigation room. Conditions in the greenhouse can be bright, with varying temperature and humidity. Hours can be longer at times and this person may be asked to come in during weekends.

Employees will be required to work with a multitude of cleaning chemicals, fertilizers, pest and herbicides, and bacterial and fungal applications. All of which will require the use of proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including full-face respirators or N95 masks.

Employees will be required to complete Confined Space Training for getting inside of water holding tanks for cleaning.

Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to climb ladders and lift up to 50 pounds (fertilizer bags and buckets with liquid). This position requires the use of TYVEK suits over the scrubs in the grow rooms which consist of semi-permeable, water-resistant material. In a TYVEK suit, the grow room conditions can result in excess heat produced by the body and be uncomfortable if worn for an extended period of time. This position requires the ability to withstand higher temperatures 75 – 95 degrees and elevated humidity levels. This position requires working under intense, bright lights with sunglasses provided for eye protection.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This position requires both team and independent work. This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 7:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Schedule flexibility is a requirement of the job. Weekend hours will be required after 90 days and longer hours during the week may occur.

Travel There may be occasional local day travel.

Requirements

2. Ability to pass state mandated background check
3. 0-3 years of farming or maintenance experience
4. Mathematical inclination
5. Mechanical aptitude
6. Organizational skills
7. Strong problem-solving skills
8. Ability to lift 50 lbs.
9. Enthusiasm about the Medical Marijuana Industry.
10. Forklift Certification

Preferred Education and Experience

1. Associate degree or higher (horticulture or agriculture background is a plus)
2. 1+ years of farming or maintenance experience
3. Experience with irrigation systems
4. Experience with Microsoft Office products
