Project Lead - Mechanical Engineer

Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a senior Project Lead, Mechanical Engineer to manage the design and delivery of complex data center and industrial projects. This candidate will be joining the Data Center division of a global EPCM firm. The ideal candidate will be highly client-facing, capable of leading mechanical engineering teams, coordinating across disciplines, and ensuring timely, high-quality project execution. This role blends technical oversight (30-40%) with project coordination and client management (60-70%), supporting projects from concept design through construction administration. Responsibilities include:

• Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and internal teams for assigned projects

• Lead the mechanical engineering team, delegating work to Project Engineers and Designers while maintaining oversight of critical design elements

• Develop and manage project work plans, schedules, and deliverables

• Conduct feasibility studies and due diligence for greenfield and brownfield sites

• Oversee the design and analysis of mechanical systems, including critical space cooling: multiple chiller topologies, air-cooled chillers, cooling distribution units, fan walls, dual-temperature loops, and dry cooler plants

• Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards, including ICC (2018), ASHRAE, SMACNA

• Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams, including electrical, structural, civil, and architectural

• Flag project risks, escalations, or scheduling conflicts to the Project Manager as needed

• Participate in occasional site visits for kickoff and construction phases

Skills and Requirements

-Active PE license

-7+ years of experience with designing and developing mechanical systems in a complex data center and/or hyperscale environment

• Hyperscale project experience

• Data center construction buildout experience

-Proven experience in client-facing project leadership

-Strong knowledge of mechanical systems design, including HVAC, chilled water, airflow, and liquid cooling systems
