Job Title: Level 2 RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Oncology Duration: 6-8 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12.5 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a medical-surgical setting and 1 year of travel experience License: Unencumbered state RN License Certifications: BLS Must-Have: - Strong clinical knowledge and nursing skills, particularly in patient assessment, medication administration, and wound care - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams - Ability to manage multiple patients and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced hospital environment - Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to address patient concerns and changes in condition - Compassionate, patient-focused approach to nursing care Description: Candidate is needed for a 6-8 week assignment only. The candidate must start on the specified date. This role involves patient assessment, care planning, medication administration, and collaboration with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure high-quality, compassionate care. Med-Surg RNs manage patients' needs throughout their hospitalization, focusing on recovery, education, and overall well-being. The unit primarily cares for medical/surgical patients, with a low volume of oncology patients. On-call duties may be required per unit needs. If called in, the RN must be able to arrive within one hour. Thirty-six hours are not guaranteed. The facility may experience low-census for up to 12 hours per 2-week pay period. Responsibilities include conducting comprehensive assessments of patients' physical, emotional, and psychological health upon admission and throughout their hospital stay. Developing, implementing, and evaluating individualized care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team, considering patients' conditions, diagnoses, and goals for recovery is essential. Monitoring patient progress and adjusting care plans as needed based on changing conditions or responses to treatment is crucial. Administering prescribed medications and treatments accurately, including oral, intravenous (IV), and injectable medications is required. Monitoring and assessing patient responses to medications and treatments, adjusting as needed, and reporting any adverse reactions or concerns to the healthcare team is vital. Tasks such as wound care, dressing changes, and managing drains or tubes may be necessary. Monitoring patients' vital signs, documenting all patient assessments, interventions, medications, treatments, and outcomes in accordance with regulations is part of the role. Identifying and reporting any changes in patient status or complications is important to ensure timely interventions are provided. Collaboration with healthcare professionals is essential to deliver holistic patient care. Daily participation in rounds and providing updates on patient status to the medical team is expected. Effective communication with patients and families to discuss care plans, treatment options, and progress is required. Educating patients and families on managing conditions, understanding surgical procedures, and preparing for discharge is part of the job. Providing guidance on post-hospital care, including lifestyle modifications, medication instructions, and follow-up appointments is critical. Offering emotional support and counseling to patients and families, addressing concerns, and alleviating anxiety related to their conditions or treatments is necessary. Monitoring and assessing patients recovering from surgery for complications like infection, bleeding, or respiratory issues is crucial. Post-operative care, including pain management and wound care, is required. Ensuring that patients are educated on managing their recovery at home, including follow-up appointments and signs of complications, is important. Patient safety must be ensured by following protocols for infection control, fall prevention, and other safety measures. Maintaining a sterile environment when performing medical procedures and using proper personal protective equipment is essential. Emergency response skills for recognizing and responding to emergencies, such as sudden changes in patient status, cardiac arrest, or respiratory distress are necessary. Performing life-saving interventions as needed is part of the role. Working conditions may include shifts on weekends and holidays.
