Plant Equipment Maintenance Mechanic — Preventive & Predictive Programs

Site: PPG Barberton/Norton, OH

Can you spot a failing bearing before it seizes? Rebuild a pump on the fly? Read a CAD drawing and turn it into a safe, permanent fix? If so, you’ll thrive maintaining and improving the mechanical backbone of our chemical manufacturing operations.

Offer highlights

• Starting pay: $34.80/hour
• Sign-on bonus: $1,000 total ($500 after 90 days; $500 after 180 days)
• Retention bonus: $1,000 at 12 months
• Schedules: 2nd Shift (Mon–Fri, 3:00 pm–11:00 pm) or 3rd Shift (Sun–Thu, 11:00 pm–7:00 am)
• Overtime: As needed to support production

Your impact

• Install, modify, and repair production equipment and facility systems.
• Diagnose complex mechanical/building system issues; replace/repair components; proof-test results.
• Execute PM/PdM across belts, piping, filters, mixers, valves, bearings, motors, gearboxes, dies, extruders, feeders, rolls, chains, classifiers, mills, seals, and pumps.
• Apply 5S to maintain safe, efficient, and clean work areas.
• Work at heights and in confined spaces using ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and roofs.
• Track work accurately; interpret manuals, schematics, blueprints, and CAD drawings.
• Patrol assigned areas to detect early equipment malfunctions.
• Perform basic welding and light fabrication.
• Identify root causes quickly; implement durable corrective actions.

What it takes

• 5+ years of industrial maintenance experience (chemical environment preferred).
• Maintenance Apprenticeship completion or Mechanical Institute certificate.
• Demonstrated skill in pump and gearbox overhauls.
• HVAC or Electrical background strongly preferred.
• Ability to work in confined spaces/at heights; capable of lifting and manual labor.
• PC skills: MS Word, Excel, and CMMS such as MicroMain, SAP, or similar.
• Ability to wear all required PPE, including a respirator.
• Consistent attendance and strong safety record; willing to support overtime.

Preferred proficiencies: CAD software; HVAC maintenance
