About the Position

Summary: The Operating Room Registered Nurse delivers comprehensive perioperative care to patients undergoing surgical procedures, with a focus on safety, comfort, and optimal outcomes. This role includes preparing the surgical environment, managing equipment and supplies, and working closely with the surgical team to provide coordinated, patient-centered care. The OR RN functions within a multidisciplinary team and upholds strict standards of patient safety, infection prevention, and professional ethics in a fast-paced surgical setting. Key Responsibilities: Prepare the operating room by ensuring all instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies are available, functional, and properly set up for each procedure Assist with patient preparation and positioning for surgery, ensuring safety, comfort, and adherence to procedural requirements Maintain a sterile field throughout surgical cases and consistently follow aseptic technique and infection control standards Anticipate the needs of surgeons and the surgical team by providing instruments, supplies, and assistance to support efficient workflow Monitor patient status during procedures, documenting changes and communicating concerns to the surgeon as appropriate Handle surgical instruments and materials appropriately, ensuring correct use, sterilization, and disposal in accordance with facility guidelines Manage specimen collection, labeling, and transport according to protocol to support accurate diagnostic processing Complete thorough and accurate documentation of perioperative nursing care Participate in pre- and post-operative handoff communication to ensure safe continuity of care Assist with room turnover, including cleaning and restocking between surgical cases in line with infection control procedures Collaborate with the surgical team to maintain compliance with institutional policies, procedures, and standards Follow all hospital safety requirements, including PPE use and infection prevention practices Perform additional duties within scope of practice as assigned Required Skills and Qualifications: Strong critical thinking skills, commitment to service excellence, and effective communication abilities Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English Ability to interpret written instructions, follow verbal directions, and use computer systems effectively Physical capability to remain stationary for extended periods, move throughout the operating room, and lift or maneuver equipment weighing 50–100 lbs, including pushing, pulling, and bending Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse surgical team while maintaining professionalism Fine motor skills and coordination required for handling instruments and assisting in procedures Ability to perform effectively in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines Capacity to work independently or with occasional supervision as needed Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and maintain attention to detail Adequate visual acuity and communication skills necessary for safe and effective performance
