General Laborer
This General Laborer role involves performing a wide range of physical tasks to support workers on active job sites. You will work closely with a team, assist skilled trades as directed, and help keep projects running safely, efficiently, and on schedule. The position requires consistent hands-on work, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to safety and teamwork.
Responsibilities- Work as part of a team to support daily construction and job site operations.
- Assist skilled workers as assigned by supervisors or leads, following instructions accurately and promptly.
- Participate in planning and coordinating tasks to ensure work progresses efficiently.
- Load and unload materials and distribute them according to supervisor direction, project plans, or specifications.
- Direct traffic near, in, or around work zones to maintain a safe and organized environment.
- Clean and prepare tools, including greasing and general upkeep, to ensure they remain in safe working condition.
- Perform general site cleanup, including removing debris, disposing of trash properly, and organizing materials and equipment at the end of each day.
- Operate a wide variety of hand and power tools safely and correctly as needed for daily tasks.
- Set a strong safety example by consistently following safety guidelines, procedures, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
- Adapt to changing assignments and perform other related duties as needed to support project goals.
- At least 1 year of concrete experience (preferred).
- Experience performing general labor in construction or similar environments.
- Ability to listen to, understand, and follow verbal and written directions.
- Ability to communicate effectively and contribute to problem solving on the job site.
- Ability to remain flexible with work hours as assignments and project needs change.
- Ability to work cooperatively with a variety of personalities and treat all team members with respect.
- Ability to perform basic math, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure.
- Willingness to learn, develop new skills, and participate in training.
- Physical ability to traverse different types of worksites and to bend, climb, stretch, and reach throughout the day.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 80 pounds and push or pull loads up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand and walk for up to eight hours per day and climb multiple sets of stairs.
- Ability to work in a variety of environments, including concrete, dirt, areas with fumes, and loud noise levels.
- Ability to work long hours and Saturdays when needed.
- Ability to work safely at various heights and in different weather conditions.
- Proficiency with hand tools such as tape measures, hammers, utility knives, and pliers.
- Ability to safely operate and care for power tools as required by the job.
- Previous experience in construction, concrete work, carpentry, or related trades.
- Demonstrated experience with general labor tasks such as cleaning, loading, and material handling.
- Comfort working with a broad range of hand tools and power tools in a construction setting.
- Strong work ethic and reliability, with a focus on safety and quality.
- Organizational skills to keep tools, materials, and work areas clean and orderly.
- Ability to wear and effectively use a tool belt capable of holding screws, nails, hammer, pliers, tape measure, and utility knife.

Work EnvironmentThis role is based on active construction and job sites, where you will work both indoors and outdoors in a range of conditions. You will regularly encounter concrete surfaces, dirt, fumes, and high noise levels, and you may work at various heights and in different weather conditions. The position involves standing and walking for extended periods, climbing stairs, lifting and carrying heavy materials, and using a variety of hand and power tools such as tape measures, hammers, utility knives, pliers, and other construction equipment. Work hours can vary based on project needs and may include long days and occasional Saturdays. You will wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintain a practical, safety-focused attire suitable for construction environments.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Columbus, OH.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
