Guitar Instructor
The Music Settlement is seeking a dedicated and experienced musician and educator to join our faculty as a part-time guitar instructor. This position involves teaching group classes to guitar students of varying ages, backgrounds, and skill levels. The anticipated teaching load is 1-5 hours per week, which will vary depending on student enrollment, teacher availability, academic calendar, and other factors. Faculty members at TMS are part of a vibrant, collaborative environment committed to musical excellence, student growth, and community engagement.
Classification: Part time, hourly, non-exempt
Start Date: Instruction begins October 2, 2025
Responsibilities:
Provide high-quality music instruction to guitar students of all ages and skill levels
Customize teaching approaches to accommodate diverse learning styles and goals
Communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, administrative staff, and colleagues
Maintain accurate student attendance records and uphold administrative expectations of TMS concerning student scheduling and billing procedures
Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and inspiring learning environment in accordance with The Music Settlement’s policies and instructional values
Maintain on-site availability for afternoon and evening hours
Educational Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in music or related field required; Master’s or equivalent professional experience preferred.
Qualifications:
At least one year of previous teaching experience required; previous teaching experience in a community music school setting preferred
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Compensation: $105 per hour for group instruction

Special programs include J@MS (Jazz @ The Music Settlement), Suzuki instruction for children as young as age 3, and intergenerational ensembles and workshops through our Creative Aging program. The Center for Music has over 60 dedicated faculty with extensive performance and teaching experience.
