QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Minimum Master’s Degree required.
Licensure: Valid Ohio Speech/Language Pathologist license required. Current appropriate Ohio Department of Education license for area of specialty.

SKILLS/COMPETANCIES:
  • Pass Safety Care Core Curriculum by passing the written exam, attending the full duration of training, participating in and passing the required role plays, and demonstrating the full competencies up to and including the Two-Person Stability Hold required.

EXPERIENCE:
  • Experience: Combination of education, training and/or experience in working with autistic children.
  • Experience in the assessment and treatment of individuals who use and qualify for assistive technology.
  • Experience in the documentation of AAC funding.
  • Experience in evidence-based practices to evaluate functional outcomes of AAC.
  • Experience in the coordination and teaching of AAC systems in a team environment.
  • Well-versed and demonstrated knowledge of current AAC/AT devices, including strengths and limitations of difference AAC devices and systems.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Monarch School Speech/Language Pathologist—Assistive Technology Specialist is part of an interdisciplinary team of professionals who are expected to provide the highest caliber of instruction in individual and/or small class settings. The Monarch School Speech/Language Pathologist—Assistive Technology Specialist is supervised by the Director of the Speech Language Pathology Department.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
  1. Assess augmentative and alternative communication/assistive technology needs for students school wide, to include low, mid, and high tech supports.
  2. Consult with other Speech Pathologists and other team members on augmentative communication needs and options, to include initial and re-evaluations.
  3. Responsible for the organization, purchasing and maintenance of the augmentative/assistive technology equipment and library.
  4. Support and lead the coordination with families and funding sources during AAC evaluations.
  5. Oversee training/communication in the area of augmentative communication and assistive technology with team members to include families/caregivers, districts, and other service providers.
  6. Maintain a caseload and provide direct therapy to students on a one-to-one and small group basis.
  7. Write, implement and progress monitor IEP goals and objectives.
  8. Administer diagnostic assessments (formal and informal evaluations including the analysis of language samples) to students.
  9. Collaborate with all disciplines to create communication and language rich programming in the classrooms.
  10. Provide education and training to teams on augmentative and alternate communication as well as the communication levels/needs of their students.
  11. Participate, engage in, and train on emerging technologies and educational developments gained from weekly consultation meetings with Dr. Howard Shane.
  12. As necessary, utilize Safety Care procedures, including at a minimum, make use of the necessary Two-Person Stability Hold.
  13. Contribute to the development and maintenance of the clinical record through the timely completion of assigned documentation in accordance with applicable licensing and accreditation regulations and standards.
  14. Adhere to the Code of Ethics outlined by the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA).
  15. Respect the privacy of clients and hold in confidence all information obtained during the client’s treatment. All client-related documents should be handled in accordance with Agency guidelines on confidential material.
OTHER DUTIES:
  1. Attend scheduled staff meetings, supervision, and on-going training.
  2. All required trainings, certifications and licensure must be kept current in accordance with applicable licensing and accreditation regulations and standards.
  3. Respect the privacy of clients and hold in confidence all information obtained during the client’s treatment. All client-related documents should be handled in accordance with Agency guidelines on confidential material.
  4. Maintain high standards of ethical and professional conduct and adhere to Agency policies and procedures.
