Industry experience and welding certifications preferred.Reports To: Principal and SuperintendentContract Length: 185 days, or as determined by the Board of EducationFLSA Status: ExemptGeneral Job Description: Teach Welding to high school students in a career-technical setting, using the course of study approved by the Board of Education and aligned to state career-technical standards.Plan, prepare, and deliver daily instruction in welding safety, tools, equipment, blueprint reading, measurement, layout, fabrication, cutting processes, and welding procedures.Provide instruction in welding processes that may include SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, oxy-fuel cutting, plasma cutting, and related fabrication skills.Create a safe, positive, respectful lab environment where students are expected to work hard, follow safety procedures, complete quality work, and grow as young adults.Teach and reinforce proper use of personal protective equipment, shop safety procedures, equipment maintenance, and industry safety expectations.Prepare students for industry-recognized credentials, career readiness expectations, employment opportunities, apprenticeships, and success after high school.Connect instruction to real-world workplace expectations, including attendance, responsibility, communication, teamwork, problem-solving, professionalism, and pride in workmanship.Assess student progress through lab performance, written assignments, projects, tests, safety checks, credentials, and other measures.Maintain accurate lesson plans, grades, attendance records, inventory records, safety documentation, and other records required by the school, district, and state.Maintain the welding lab, tools, equipment, supplies, materials, and instructional areas in a clean, safe, organized, and professional manner.Work cooperatively with academic teachers, career-technical instructors, intervention specialists, counselors, administration, and support staff to help students succeed.Differentiate instruction and provide appropriate accommodations, modifications, and supports for students with IEPs, 504 plans, and other learning needs.Communicate professionally with students, parents/guardians, staff, administration, advisory committee members, and community partners.Build and maintain positive relationships with local business, industry, labor, post-secondary partners, and advisory committee members.Support the mission of Jefferson County JVS by promoting student responsibility, employability skills, good attendance, professionalism, safety, and pride in the school.Minimum Qualifications: Valid Ohio career-technical teaching license in Welding or eligibility to obtain appropriate licensure as required by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce.Documented experience in the welding field.Knowledge of welding safety, welding processes, fabrication, equipment operation, and industry standards.Ability to work effectively with students, staff, administration, parents, business/industry partners, and the community.Ability to maintain a safe and productive lab environment.Successful completion of all background checks and employment requirements.Essential Functions: The following are typical work responsibilities: Participate in staff meetings, conferences, advisory committee meetings, and other required school activities.Maintain accurate records and submit reports on time.Maintain the confidentiality of privileged information and demonstrate a respect for personal privacy.Report suspected child abuse and/or neglect to administrators and serve as a positive role model for others.Strive to develop rapport with students, staff, and administration and serve as a positive role model for others.Maintain a professional appearance. Dress in work attire appropriate for the position/situation.Promote a professional image of the school district.
Encourage community partnerships, which enhance district programs.Uphold board policies and follow administrative guidelines/procedures. Refer policy interpretation inquiries to administrative staff.Follow all safety rules and procedures related to the welding lab, equipment, materials, and student supervision.Perform other related duties as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent.Salary: Placement on the salary schedule will be based on educational level, licensure, and teaching/industry experience.Benefits: School Teachers Retirement System, group hospitalization, major medical, life, dental, and vision insurance, sick leave, and personal leave.This job description does not state or imply that these are the only duties to be performed by this employee.
