Summer Camp Coordinator
Hiram College is seeking a part-time Summer Camp Coordinator to coordinate and implement summer camp activities through the James H. Barrow Biological Field Station. This part-time position includes the Program Planning in the spring semester (as early as March through early May) and the Program Management and Execution during the summer (early May through early August).
The Program Planning in the spring semester can be done remotely. The Program Management and Execution in the summer has some flexibility during this period to account for a candidate's external schedule that is not necessarily aligned with Hiram College's calendar. Examples of this flexibility may include (but are not limited to) the candidate's ability to do on-site work before early June being restricted, or their potential plans for vacation. Thus, there is some latitude in scheduling the camp programming in consultation with the Director of Field Stations.
Duties and Responsibilities :
- During this position's Program Planning period: Plan, develop, advertise, and coordinate nature and art camp schedule and programs. This includes registration, payment collection, communications and reminders, supply purchasing, and coordinating intern/student help.
- During this position's Program Management and Execution period: Lead nature and art camp programs, manage all aspects of the camps, and supervise summer interns contributing to summer camp programming.
- During this position's work period, oversee calendar of educational activities and the use of facilities for summer camp activities at the Field Station, in consultation/collaboration with other Field Station staff and with the Events Office.
- Mentor/train student workers to educate and engage with children (and potentially adults) through summer internships focusing on summer camp programming.
- Maintain paperwork and records, such as expense reports, Ohio Dept. of Natural Resources (ODNR) education animal report, etc.
- During this position's Program Management and Execution period, in collaboration with other Field Station staff and the Admissions Office, contribute to student recruiting and admission efforts such as representing Field Station at Resource Fair, at First Year Orientation , and other admission/recruiting events; and be available to give tours of the Field Station for prospective students .
- During the Program Management and Execution period, develop and update educational displays and passive/informal education opportunities, including displays in the main building, kiosks, and pavilion; the Little Free Library; and other programs as applicable.
- Contribute to the use of the educational animals in educational programming.
- Pursue training as needed in the proper use and care of educational animals.
Experience and Education Requirements:
- A bachelor's degree is required.
- Experience with children's education in formal or informal settings is required.
- Ability to create and implement age-appropriate lesson plans or educational programs is required.
