Precision TIG/MIG Welder & Fabrication Specialist

A Day in This Role

You start your shift reviewing engineering drawings and fixtures for the day’s repair and build list. Your first task: restore a worn machine jig to service by selecting the best process—perhaps GTAW (TIG) for control or GMAW (MIG) for speed—then sequencing welds to prevent distortion. After verifying fit-up, you run an automatic welding machine for a production run, switching later to aluminum brazing for a tooling repair. Before lunch, you complete a leak-tight inspection on a finished assembly and document your results. The afternoon includes bench stock replenishment, tidying your bay, and lending a hand on a maintenance request.

Core Responsibilities

• Repair and fabricate broken tools, machine parts, jigs, and fixtures using the appropriate welding method for each job.
• Operate automatic welding equipment safely and efficiently to meet quality and throughput goals.
• Perform precise TIG welding and aluminum brazing; switch among oxy-acetylene, GTAW, and GMAW as needed.
• Set up work from prints, drawings, and fixtures; plan welding sequences that minimize distortion and ensure dimensional accuracy.
• Deliver leak-tight welds and perform final inspections of your own work for quality assurance.
• Maintain bench stock, tools, and a clean, organized, and safe workstation.
• Apply basic machining skills and mechanical assembly techniques as tasks require.
• Take on additional assignments that support production and maintenance needs.

What You Bring

• Certified Welder (required).
• High school diploma or GED; technical/vocational training is a plus.
• 1–3 years of welding/fabrication experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of welding processes, metal fabrication practices, and blueprint/print reading.
• Excellent manual dexterity, attention to detail, and practical problem-solving ability.
• Clear verbal and written communication skills.
• Sound judgment with a focus on safe, accurate work.

Physical & Work Environment

• Lift up to 50 lbs and push/pull up to 70 lbs.
• Stand for extended periods; bend and twist as tasks require.
• Machine shop environment with potential exposure to dust, sand, and dirt.
• Use and maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE).
