This role focuses on performing high-quality welding on structural and pressure components using multiple welding processes in a busy steel fabrication environment. You will review weld procedures and blueprints, set up and operate various welding equipment, and ensure that all work meets established quality and safety standards while contributing to a clean, organized, and productive workspace.
Responsibilities
- Review weld procedures, job travelers, and prints before starting each job to understand specifications and requirements.
- Set up and operate welding equipment for Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), and TIG Welding (GTAW).
- Perform welding on structural and pressure components in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, and specifications.
- Clean welds and prepare surfaces for inspection, ensuring proper finishing and presentation of welded joints.
- Inspect welds for quality, consistency, and adherence to standards, making adjustments as needed to maintain workmanship.
- Use grinders and finishing tools to dress welds and achieve the required final appearance and tolerances.
- Maintain safe work practices at all times, including consistent and correct use of required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Assist with material handling using cranes, hoists, or forklifts as needed to move and position components safely.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area and meet productivity expectations in a steel fabrication environment.
- Demonstrate reliable attendance in line with company standards and support overall team workflow.
- Participate in a written test to demonstrate basic welding knowledge as part of the interview and evaluation process.
- Support a collaborative shop environment by communicating effectively with team members and following established procedures.
- Basic to advanced welding aptitude across multiple processes, including MIG (GMAW), TIG (GTAW), and stick (SMAW) welding.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and weld procedures accurately.
- Familiarity with common welding tools and shop equipment, including grinders and finishing tools.
- Experience welding structural steel, mild steel, and stainless steel components.
- Ability to perform fabrication and fitting work on structural and pressure components.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and strict compliance with PPE requirements.
- Reliable attendance record consistent with company expectations.
- Capability to complete a written welding knowledge test as part of the hiring process (knowledge check, not pass/fail).
- Practical experience using MIG welders and related equipment in a production or fabrication setting.
- Competence in grinding and finishing welds to meet quality and appearance standards.
- Preferred degree or certification in welding or a closely related field.
- Experience working under relevant welding codes and performing pressure vessel welding.
- Multi-process welding experience at a production level, including structural steel applications.
- Prior experience in a fabrication or heavy manufacturing environment, particularly within the steel industry.
- Previous crane or forklift experience for material handling in a shop or industrial setting.
- Strong blueprint reading skills with the ability to translate drawings into accurate welds and assemblies.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in hot and cold conditions and in environments where surfaces and clothing may become dirty.

Work Environment
The role is based in an industrial steel fabrication setting that can be hot in warmer months and cold in cooler months, and you should expect to get dirty due to the nature of the work. You will work on either 1st shift (7:00am–3:30pm) or 2nd shift (3:15pm–11:45pm), alongside a team of welders and fabricators using MIG, TIG, and stick welding equipment, grinders, cranes, hoists, and forklifts. The environment is fast-paced and production-oriented, with a strong emphasis on safety, proper PPE usage, and maintaining a clean, organized work area while meeting productivity expectations.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Struthers, OH.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
