Public Health Nurse I

The Henry County Health Department is seeking a dedicated full-time Public Health Nurse 1 to provide essential public health services to individuals and families across the community. This role includes working in clinics, schools, community settings, and home environments to support health promotion, disease prevention, and education.

Responsibilities include providing direct client care (such as administering vaccines, collecting samples, and conducting screenings), completing accurate documentation, and assisting with communicable disease follow-up and investigations. The Public Health Nurse will also support community outreach efforts, health education programs, and public health initiatives across multiple service areas.

This role supports a variety of public health programs, including immunizations, newborn home visiting, communicable disease investigation, and community health education. The position offers a stable schedule with a strong work-life balance, including no holidays and minimal weekend requirements, along with a comprehensive benefits package.

Schedule & Work Location:

• Monday to Friday – 8:30am – 4:30pm
• 35 hours per week
• In person

Qualifications/Licensure Requirements:

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
• Experience in clinical or public health settings preferred.
• Experience working with individuals, families, or community populations preferred.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.

License/Certification:

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Ohio required
• Driver’s License (Required)

Responsibilities:

• Provide public health services in clinic, community, school, and home settings (e.g., vital signs, specimen collection, vaccinations, screenings).
• Collect, document, and maintain accurate client records in accordance with policies and procedures.
• Assist with communicable disease investigations, follow-up, and reporting.
• Deliver health education to individuals and families, including prevention, wellness, and healthy lifestyle practices.
• Support and participate in community outreach, case finding, and health promotion activities.
• Assist in coordinating and conducting clinics, screenings, and public health programs.
• Refer clients to appropriate healthcare providers, social services, or community resources as needed.
• Maintain and monitor clinical supplies, equipment, and vaccine inventory.
• Assist with data collection, reporting, and program evaluation for public health initiatives.
• Participate in meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
• Collaborate with internal staff, community partners, and external agencies.
• Ensure compliance with all health, safety, confidentiality, and regulatory standards.

Compensation:

• This position is in Pay Grade 6. Hourly rate is based on education and years of experience.
