JOB DESCRIPTION: MECHANIC
CLASSIFICATION PURPOSEThis non-exempt job classification is responsible for troubleshooting, performing, and evaluating all service and
repair activities of landscape equipment, related tools, and street-legal vehicles in a safe, timely, and cost-efficient
manner; perform related work as required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- fully responsible for all Shop operations;
- repairs, replaces, and/or performs preventative maintenance on engines, equipment, vehicles and tools;
- responsible for the repair and maintenance of all vehicles, tools, small equipment, heavy equipment and trailers;
- works on various types of engines (e.g. diesel, gasoline, small, 2-cycle, 4-cycle);
- directs and oversees the repair, maintenance, inspection, inventory, and assignment of specialty tools and landscape equipment (e.g., mowers, blowers, edgers, trimmers, hedge cutters, mini-excavator, Bobcat, loader,
- trencher, stump grinder, spray rig), as well as related tools (e.g., pruners, saws, loppers), trailers, and vehicles
- diagnose and repairs mechanical systems including fuel, electrical, brakes, charging system, A/C, suspension,
- engine repair, hydraulics, engine cooling, transmission, drive lines, belt drive; to ensure optimal performance;
- ensures daily fleet preparedness (e.g., end of day, end of season) by completing repairs and maintenance;
- manages and meticulously updates daily records in the company software, (e.g. repairs performed, associated costs, labor hours, scheduled and completed inspections, detailed reports), ensuring all data is accurate,
- current, and readily accessible for management and operational review.
- manages, coordinates in-house and outside repairs;
- manages, coordinates, and performs seasonal preparations;
- manages inventory to result in Fleet readiness;
- manages clean, safe, and organized shop each day;
- manages deliveries (e.g., fuel, materials, parts, products, bulk/bagged salt, nursery stock);
- performs Shop and Facility maintenance;
- updates Managers with up-to-date communications;
- ensures building and assets are safe and secure;
- holds others accountable for non routine maintenance damage and/or repairs
- reads and understands complex mechanical schematics (e.g parts diagram, wiring diagram);
- relies on manufacturer diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and specifications to guide proper troubleshooting, repair, or replacement;
- repairs hydraulic systems including hoses and piping;
- diagnoses pneumatic brake systems and regulators on CDL vehicles;
- completes all DOT required inspections, and repairs, fills out reports and updates file upon completion;
- maintains the shop, tools, and equipment in a clean and orderly fashion;
- proficient in using hand tools, power tools, and precision-measuring and testing instruments;
- reviews equipment reports;
- develops a list of parts needed and source from local supplier;
- performs basic body work and painting;
- performs basic fabrication and welding;
- complies with all policies, procedures, and performance goals;
- ensures that all safety laws, policies, and practices are met;
- maintains service logs and records of preventative maintenance for all tools, equipment, and vehicles;
- demonstrates professional understanding of hazardous substances, PPE, and OSHA compliance;
- provides excellent service (e.g., accurate, complete, and timely) to vendors, work-site partners, and company staff in a courteous and efficient manner;
- performs Winter Service (e.g., snow clearing and de-icing, by hand and/or with equipment) as needed;
- could be called in for Emergency repair work during an active winter weather event;

with emergency reporting procedures; can define and identify hazardous substances. Client Service: Consistently exceeds client expectations; keeps clients well-informed, listens to them
attentively, and addresses their concerns; enacts a personal approach to client service. Interpersonal Skills: Treats others with respect, collaboration, and support in such a way that work relationships
are improved and morale is increased; is approachable; has effective communication skills. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
An example of the preferred education, training, and/or experience that demonstrates possession of the knowledge,
skills, and competencies for this position includes: five (5) years of experience performing mechanical
troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of landscape equipment, tools, and vehicles demonstrating the
qualifications identified above. ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS

License: A valid driver’s license, which must be maintained throughout employment in this job classification, is
required at the time of appointment.
Certifications: No certifications are required of this position.
Language: Though not required, basic bilingual English and Spanish skills are desirable.
Working Conditions: Work is conducted predominately in an in-door industrial environment exposed to varying
temperatures, weather conditions, and noise levels; exposure to dust, pesticides, herbicides, grease, oils, fuels,
dust, fumes, and electrical currents.
Background Investigation: Incumbents must have a reputation for honesty and trustworthiness. Misdemeanor
and/or felony convictions may be disqualifying depending on type, number, severity, and recency. Candidates may
be subject to a background investigation and/or drug test.
Introductory Period: Incumbents appointed to this job classification serve an introductory period of 90 days. KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
