Flagger Position- Bedford, Ohio
Job Description
This role supports roadway construction and maintenance projects by safely directing traffic around active work zones in the Greater Cleveland area. You will work entirely outdoors, helping protect workers, drivers, and pedestrians by managing traffic flow, setting up traffic control devices, and maintaining a safe work environment. The position requires reliability, strong situational awareness, and clear communication in fast-changing conditions.
Responsibilities
- Direct and control traffic using stop/slow paddles, hand signals, and radios to maintain safe and orderly movement through work zones.
- Set up, maintain, and remove traffic control devices such as cones, signs, and barricades in accordance with company procedures and state standards.
- Monitor road and worksite conditions continuously and adjust traffic control patterns as needed to ensure safety for workers and the public.
- Communicate clearly and consistently with crew members, supervisors, and the public to coordinate safe operations around construction areas.
- Follow all safety protocols, including those covered during orientation, and immediately report any hazards, incidents, or equipment issues.
- Stand for extended periods and remain attentive and focused throughout the shift in all types of weather conditions.
- Use a mobile app each day to receive dispatch instructions and travel from home to assigned job sites within approximately a one-hour radius.
- Participate in a one-day in-office orientation focused on safety protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Support multiple job sites as needed, including traveling between locations to assist other crews when requested.
Essential Skills
- Ability to work 100% outdoors on active construction jobs in all weather conditions.
- Capability to stand on your feet for the entire shift and remain attentive for 8–10 hours per day, with an average of approximately 50 hours per week.
- Physical ability to lift 30–50 lbs as needed for setting up and removing traffic control equipment.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to commute to various job sites and occasionally travel between sites.
- Strong situational awareness to recognize and respond quickly to changing traffic and worksite conditions.
- Clear verbal communication skills to interact effectively with crew members, supervisors, and the public.
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and courteous when dealing with the public in potentially stressful situations.
- Willingness to obtain Traffic Control or Flagging certification if not already certified.
- Availability to work Monday through Friday, with potential Saturday work, starting around 7:00 a.m.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Prior flagging, traffic control, construction, or landscaping experience is a plus but not required.
- Experience with traffic management or traffic control procedures in roadway or utility construction environments is beneficial.
- Comfort using a mobile app for daily dispatch and job information.
- Orientation attendance in the office for a six-hour safety-focused session in Bedford.
- Willingness to work within a defined geographic area, including the Greater Cleveland area and surrounding cities typically within one hour, generally no further west than Rocky River, no further east than Mentor, and no further south than Richfield.

Work Environment
You work 100% outdoors on active construction and utility job sites in the Greater Cleveland area and surrounding cities within roughly a one-hour radius. Typical shifts run Monday through Friday, often 8–10 hours per day, with an average of about 50 hours per week and the possibility of Saturday work. Job sites usually start around 7:00 a.m., and end times vary based on project needs. You attend a one-day, six-hour orientation in the office in Bedford at 8:00 a.m., where you receive safety training and your PPE. After orientation, you are dispatched from home each day via a mobile app to your assigned site. The work environment involves active roadways, construction equipment, and changing weather conditions, requiring consistent alertness and adherence to safety protocols. Steel-toe or composite boots that come above the ankle are required as part of the dress code, and additional PPE is provided to ensure you can perform your duties safely.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
