Supervisory Social Worker - Behavioral Health Integrated Program
Summary
The Behavioral Health Integrated Program (BHIP) Supervisor is a clinical and administrative position that has program management and direct supervisory responsibilities over the clinical - training and administrative areas of two BHIP teams within the Outpatient Behavioral Health Division. The BHIP Supervisor is responsible for monitoring program data to ensure effectiveness and efficiency of treatments and continuing process improvement.

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements:
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
- English Language Proficiency Requirement - Per VA Handbook 5005 - Part II - Chapter 3 - Section A - Paragraph 3j: No person will be appointed under authority of 38 U.S.C. - chapter 73 or 74 - to serve in a direct patient-care capacity in VHA who is not proficient in written and spoken English
- Education Requirement - You must have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)
- Note: Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited
- A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree
- Licensure: Candidates must possess a full - current - and unrestricted license to independently practice as a Social Worker at the advanced practice level in a State - Territory - Commonwealth of the United States - or the District of Columbia
- May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria)
- Grade Determinations: Supervisory Social Worker - GS-13 Experience/Education
- One year of experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level
- Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment
- Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship - or equivalent supervised professional experience
- Licensure/Certification
- Individuals assigned as supervisory social workers must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level - and must be able to provide supervision for licensure

- In addition to the experience above - the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: Ability to independently organize work - set priorities - and meet multiple deadlines
- Skill in a range of supervisory duties which includes clinical supervision - consultation - negotiation with other departments and quality improvement
- Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services by supervised social workers
- Ability to delegate authority - manage priorities - coordinate work - and follow up on pending issues to complete duties in an accurate and timely fashion
- Ability to analyze organizational and operational problems - develop and implement solutions that result in efficient operations - and use data effectively to manage workload - quality - performance - and productivity within the service

- Physical Requirements: The position is primarily sedentary - with some bending - walking and stooping required
- This position requires the ability to read printed material and distinguish colors - such as reading computer screens and the ability to accurately perceive depth so as to move around work space safely and to appropriately make contact with patients and staff.
Duties
- VA Careers - Social Work: Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Supervisory Responsible for both the programmatic and administrative functioning of two BHIP Teams
- Direct administrative supervision of all staff on the teams they lead
- They are responsible for monitoring access to timely service delivery of therapies and treatments for all Veterans treated within the teams they oversee
- Review policies and procedures with staff to ensure compliance with performance measures related to access and clinic utilization
- Ensures patients seen in their programs have timely access to evidence based treatments
- Monitors outcome and process measurements within programs using data-driven quality assurance processes
- Also responsible for ensuring that Veteran input and feedback is incorporated into the ongoing quality improvement initiatives
- Responsible for timely completion of all program evaluations and documents required by the Medical Center - VISN - and VACO - ensuring compliance with appropriate accrediting bodies (JCAHO/CARF) and monitoring entities (NEPEC)
- Present outcome data/research results for the VISN and NEPEC reports as needed or requested

- Independently provides biopsychosocial assessment - evaluation and diagnostic services for Veterans with a broad range or psychopathology receiving care within the clinic setting
- Provides education to both patients and family members regarding relevant mental health concerns
- Provides comprehensive - evidence-based - psychotherapeutic interventions - including individual - family - and group psychotherapy and psychoeducation
- Provides consultation to health care provider s about assessment findings and treatment plan for patients to ensure health care is coordinated - collaborative - and integrated within the healthcare system
- Develops implements and documents the mental health treatment plan for an assigned caseload of patients
- Complies with all Mental Health documentation requirements - including timely completion of prescribed templates for documenting results of assessment - treatment and risk evaluation contacts
- Adheres to all Mental Health policies and practices for delivering clinical care - including but not limited to suicide risk reduction practices - timeliness of care and access standards - professional conduct requirements - and EMR documentation conventions
- Achieves clinical workload expectations as established by the Mental Health Service
- At the GS-13level and above - Social Workers are fully licensed and function independently as a member of the VACOHS Medical Staff with full clinical privileges
- Academic/Teaching/Training Provide clinical or training supervision
- May supervise unlicensed social work staff - interns - students and peer support
- May hold university academic affiliation
