This position combines hands-on machining, CNC programming, precision measurement, and light leadership responsibilities, including training entry-level machinists and supporting continuous improvement efforts. The role is ideal for a mechanically inclined professional who enjoys working with advanced equipment, interpreting blueprints, and maintaining high quality standards in a climate-controlled shop.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints and mechanical drawings to manufacture components to exact specifications.
  • Program CNC machines for milling and turning operations, including selecting appropriate tooling and machining strategies.
  • Set up tooling, fixtures, and cutting tools, and ensure proper alignment and calibration for efficient production.
  • Use precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and bore gauges to verify dimensions and tolerances.
  • Conduct in-process and final quality checks to ensure all parts meet required specifications and quality standards.
  • Maintain machine calibration and perform routine preventive maintenance on shop equipment to ensure reliable operation.
  • Utilize hand tools, power tools, and tooling to assemble or modify parts as needed for production or product improvement.
  • Follow all safety protocols and shop procedures to maintain a safe and organized work area.
  • Assist with product improvement initiatives, collaborating with engineering and production assembly teams as needed.
  • Train and mentor entry-level machinists, sharing best practices in machining, setup, and measurement.
  • Support maintenance and troubleshooting of hydraulic and mechanical presses as required.
  • Collaborate with team members across manufacturing to meet production goals while maintaining quality and efficiency.

Essential Skills

  • At least 5 years of experience with CNC programming and operation of milling machines and lathes.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and mechanical drawings.
  • Proficiency in operating CNC and manual milling machines, lathes, and related machining equipment.
  • Skilled in the use of precision measuring instruments, including calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and similar tools.
  • Solid mechanical aptitude and understanding of machining processes and techniques.
  • Ability to perform accurate setups for tooling, fixtures, and cutting tools.
  • Capability to conduct detailed quality checks and verify parts against specifications.
  • Comfort with using hand tools and power tools in a machine shop environment.
  • Commitment to following safety protocols and maintaining a clean, organized work area.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Basic math skills for measurements, calculations, and machining tolerances.
  • Experience with welding equipment, tooling setup, and forklift operation is a plus.
  • Experience with purchasing, inventory control, and working with vendors is beneficial.
  • Experience in supporting product improvement, engineering collaboration, or production assembly.
  • Ability to train and mentor less experienced machinists in machining and measurement techniques.

Why Work Here?

You will join a long-established organization with a stable history and a small, close-knit manufacturing team that values collaboration and trust. The company offers competitive pay with opportunities for annual raises and substantial annual bonuses, often equivalent to several months of pay, reflecting its non-profit structure and shared success.

Team members benefit from flexible first-shift hours with minimal required overtime, no production quotas, and very little micromanagement, supporting a healthy work-life balance.
