Histology Technician Job Details

• Location: Akron, Ohio 44304 (Ohio healthcare jobs)
• Setting: Hospital Laboratory – Histology Department
• Employment Type: Travel Contract (Travel Histology Technician)
• Assignment Duration: 16 weeks (8/31/2025 – 12/20/2025)
• Hours: 40 hours per week
• Shift: Day shifts: 6:00am–2:30pm, 6:30am–3:00pm, or 5:00am–1:30pm, Monday–Friday
• Shift Duration: 8-hour days
• Weekly Estimated Pay: $2050–$2100 per week

Histology Technician Qualifications

• High School Diploma with 2 years of laboratory experience OR Associate of Science degree with 1 year of histology laboratory experience
• Minimum 1 year of experience as a Histology Technician or Histology Technologist preferred
• Registry certification at technician level preferred or eligibility to obtain (ASCP certification a plus)
• Strong ability to read, comprehend, and follow detailed laboratory procedures
• Manual dexterity for precise dissection, microtome operation, and equipment maintenance
• Basic computer skills or willingness to learn laboratory information systems
• Commitment to 12+ continuing education credits per year (healthcare compliance)
• Physical ability to lift 20-50 pounds occasionally and 10-25 pounds frequently

Histology Technician Responsibilities

• Receive and process tissue, biological materials, and body fluids for microscopic examination in a clinical laboratory setting
• Assist with research procedures, specimen labeling, and preparation using proper dehydrating, fixing, infiltrating, and paraffin solutions
• Embed specimens, cut tissue sections using a microtome, mount sections onto slides, and perform routine and special stains
• Prepare stains and solutions according to hospital laboratory protocols
• Maintain laboratory equipment, manage inventory, and ensure a clean, organized work area
• Keep accurate records, slide files, and tissue blocks as per laboratory procedures
• Respond to technical information requests and refer complex queries as needed
• Stay current with new histology techniques, laboratory procedures, and equipment; participate in continuing education and training
• Assist in the orientation and training of new laboratory staff
