Histology Technician Job Details

• Location: Columbus, Ohio (43210) – Ohio healthcare jobs
• Facility Type: Hospital Laboratory
• Position Type: Travel Histology Technician (Locum Tenens)
• Shift: Night shift, 5x8-hour shifts (20:00 - 04:30)
• Schedule: Sunday–Thursday or Monday–Friday (no weekends required)
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks (Start: 10/20/2025 – End: 1/19/2026)
• Weekly Hours: 40
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $1800-$1840
• Overtime: Optional, as needed
• Lab Amenities: Free parking (3rd shift), secure lockers, break room, and kitchen with appliances

Histology Technician Qualifications

• ASCP-HT (American Society for Clinical Pathology - Histotechnician) certification required
• At least 1 year of recent histology experience in a clinical laboratory, including microtomy and paraffin embedding
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently during night shifts
• Flu vaccine required (medical exemptions considered)
• Two professional references (one must be from a manager, director, or supervisor)
• Experience with Epic charting system preferred
• Pre-approved time off must be submitted prior to contract confirmation

Histology Technician Responsibilities

• Perform routine paraffin embedding of tissue specimens
• Conduct microtomy and sectioning for H&E staining
• Carry out immunohistochemistry (IHC) and molecular procedures
• Process laboratory information and office orders
• Assist with minimal special staining and processing duties
• Maintain laboratory cleanliness and organization
• Operate advanced lab equipment, including Leica microtomes, embedding stations, and automated stainers
• Adhere to all laboratory safety protocols and procedures
