5-Axis CNC Milling Specialist - Aerospace & Defense

A day in the life

At the start of your shift, you review routed instructions and manufacturing process plans, load programs, and set tooling per the setup sheet. You prove-out programs on advanced 4- and 5-axis CNC milling centers to produce complex metal and composite parts that meet tight aerospace/defense tolerances. Throughout the day, you interpret blueprints using GD&T, verify work with handheld metrology, make on-machine G- and M-code edits as needed, and upload/download programs. You close out each operation by completing the router before moving parts to the next step.

Schedule options

• 1st Shift: Monday–Friday, 10-hour days starting at 5:30 am; typical 50-hour work week with OT.
• 2nd Shift: multiple options (4x10, 5x10, or 4x12). There is a 25% pay differential for 2nd shift.

What you'll do

• Work from routed instructions, manufacturing process plans, blueprints, and verbal direction under moderate supervision.
• Plan and execute setups, selecting and staging tools per the setup sheet.
• Use a variety of handheld measuring instruments to validate dimensions.
• Write simple programs at the machine when needed; read/edit G & M code.
• Download and upload programs at the machine.
• Complete accompanying routers as operations are finished before moving parts forward.

What you bring

• High school career machine trades program preferred.
• G & M coding experience (able to read/edit).
• Blueprint literacy and working knowledge of GD&T.
• Strong mechanical and spatial aptitude.
