Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical Oncology (Hematology) position at an academic medical center in Ohio, requiring a valid OH or compact RN license and at least 2 years of current acute care experience.
Details
- Inpatient Medical Surgical Oncology unit within an academic teaching hospital setting
- Patient population includes lymphoma, multiple myeloma, acute and chronic leukemias, sickle cell disease, and other hematologic and non-hematologic cancers
- Staffing ratio goal is 1:4, with a maximum of 1:5
- Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
- Weekend scheduling is variable based on unit needs; no set or blocked scheduling
- Floating required to other Med/Surg and Oncology units
- Epic EMR — experience required
- Specialized procedures include chemotherapy administration, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, insulin drips, heparin drips, and management of oncologic emergencies such as tumor lysis syndrome and cytokine release syndrome
- Strong emphasis on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention
Requirements
- Active OH or compact RN license required at time of consideration
- Current BLS certification required; ACLS required
- ONS (OCN) certification preferred
- Minimum 2 years of acute care RN experience required — experience must be current and active within the last 12 months and in the oncology or med/surg specialty
- Hematology/oncology experience strongly preferred but not required; Med/Surg experience required
- Telemetry experience required, including cardiac monitoring and interpretation of dysrhythmias
- Proficiency in IV therapy and infusions, phlebotomy, central line blood draws, PICC line management, peripheral line care, and starting IVs
- Experience with blood and blood product administration required
- Port access and management experience preferred
- Epic EMR experience required
- Nursing degree from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program required
- 2 professional references required: at least 1 must be from a manager, director, or formal leadership role (e.g., supervisor); a Charge RN is acceptable as a second reference; co-worker references are not accepted
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
Additional Information
- Provides direct nursing care to hematology/oncology patients including chemotherapy administration, blood product transfusions, drip management, and response to oncologic emergencies
- Candidates should come with a willingness to learn and grow their nursing practice
- Ohio state fingerprinting is required and must be completed promptly upon contract signing — candidates outside Ohio within driving distance will need to travel to an Ohio fingerprinting location; those farther away will receive a mailed fingerprinting packet to be completed urgently
- Former employees of the facility are eligible for a travel assignment after a minimum 6-month separation; current employees of any Ohio State University hospital location are not eligible
- Local candidates are accepted at the same rate as travelers
- Requested time off (RTO) must be submitted prior to booking and built into the contract; RTO is limited to 7 days or fewer
- Multiple on-site parking permit options are available for purchase through CampusParc, ranging from full medical center garage access to budget surface lot options with shuttle service
