Position Announcement: Village Administrator
The Village of Somerset is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Village Administrator . This is a full-time administrative leadership position responsible for overseeing the daily operations of Village departments, implementing policies established by the Mayor and Village Council, and supporting the efficient delivery of municipal services.
The Village Administrator serves at the direction of the Mayor and Village Council and works collaboratively with department heads, staff, residents, and regional partners.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are representative and not all-inclusive:
Administration & Operations
- Oversee daily operations of Village departments and services
- Coordinate activities between departments to ensure efficient service delivery
- Implement policies, ordinances, and directives established by Council
- Assist the Mayor and Council with strategic planning and goal implementation
- Develop and recommend operational improvements and efficiencies
Financial Management
- Assist with preparation and administration of the Village budget
- Monitor departmental expenditures and revenues
- Assist with long-term financial planning
- Support grant administration and compliance activities
Project & Infrastructure Management
- Coordinate capital improvement projects
- Assist with infrastructure planning and asset management
- Work with engineers, contractors, and regulatory agencies
- Monitor project timelines, costs, and compliance
Personnel & Organizational Support
- Assist with personnel management and policy implementation
- Support hiring processes and onboarding coordination
- Promote a positive and professional workplace culture
- Assist with labor and employment compliance requirements
Community & Intergovernmental Relations
- Serve as liaison with county, state, and regional agencies
- Communicate with residents regarding Village services and projects
- Support economic development and community initiatives
- Represent the Village at meetings and public functions as directed
Regulatory & Compliance
- Help ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
- Assist with records management and reporting requirements
- Support emergency management coordination when needed
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Finance, or related field preferred but not necessary
- Equivalent combination of education, training, and municipal experience may be considered
- Experience in local government, public administration, or supervisory management preferred
- Knowledge of municipal budgeting and finance principles preferred
- Knowledge of grant management and reporting strongly preferred
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to work effectively with elected officials, staff, and the public
- Proficiency in standard office software and municipal management systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in Ohio local government
- Experience with public infrastructure or capital project management
- Experience with state and federal grant programs
- Knowledge of Ohio Revised Code as it relates to municipal operations
Compensation & Benefits
Salary range and benefits will be based on qualifications and experience and in accordance with Village policies.
