CNC Machinist

The primary functions include operating multi-axes computer numerical control (CNC) milling machines or lathes to machine surfaces of metallic and nonmetallic work pieces.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the Major Responsibilities, including the following:

• Loads material in machine. Starts machine and observes cutting operation.
• Starts a setup with assistance on offsets if needed.
• Makes offsets independently to keep the machine running.
• Sets up and replaces tools without supervision.
• Recognizes tool wear before dimensions are affected.
• Compares numerical data display with specifications on operations sheet.
• Adjusts tool lengths and fixture offsets if required.
• Monitors tooling usage for maximum cost effectiveness.
• Responsible for the accuracy and quality of the part.
• Authorized to stop processes to ensure quality.
• Responsible for machine turnovers to adjacent shift operators.
• Works overtime as required.
• Other duties as assigned.

Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or three months to six months related experience and/or training.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, routers and inspections procedures

Ability to read and interpret blueprints

Ability to understand general G-code programming is preferred

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry or ability to use a trig book.

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations preferred.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Demonstrates mechanical aptitude

Operates basic measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, surface plate checks and optical comparators.
