Cross Country Coach

Start Date: 2026 Fall Season

Position Summary

St. Thomas Aquinas High School and Middle School is seeking a motivated, organized, and faith-centered individual to serve as the Head Boys & Girls Cross Country Coach. The head coach will lead and oversee all aspects of the cross country program, fostering athletic excellence, academic success, leadership, and Christian character development in a competitive and supportive environment.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and conduct daily practices and training sessions.

• Develop seasonal training plans focused on endurance, strength, injury prevention, and peak performance.

• Supervise and mentor assistant coaches and volunteers.

• Collaborate with the Athletic Director to organize meet schedules, transportation, and event logistics.

• Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, faculty, administration, and athletic department staff.

• Monitor academic progress and promote accountability and discipline.

• Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, and faith-based character development.

• Maintain equipment inventory and uniforms.

• Ensure compliance with OHSAA, school, and Diocese of Youngstown athletic policies.

• Assist with fundraising and program development as needed.

Qualifications

• Prior cross country coaching experience preferred.

• Knowledge of distance training methods, conditioning, and race strategy.

• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

• Ability to motivate and develop student-athletes of all ability levels.

• Completion of all OHSAA and Diocese of Youngstown coaching requirements.

• BCI/FBI background check

• Virtus Training – Protecting God’s Children

• Coaches Tool Chest Certification

• Valid Pupil Activity Permit from the Ohio Department of Education

Compensation: Stipend per diocese contracted pay scale.
