Graduate Assistant - Student Support
Muskingum University invites applications for the position of Graduate Assistant for Student Support. The Graduate Assistant will support neurodivergent students through residential-based development, social, and transitional programing while acquiring transferable skills in student support, early intervention, and inclusive educational practices. This position emphasizes fostering student independence, community belonging, and successful transition to college life within the residential and broader campus environment.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide developmental, social, and transitional support to neurodivergent students or other at- risk students within campus residence halls and student engagement programs
- Serve as a live-in resource within assigned residence halls
- Support students in navigating roommate relationships and residential expectations
- Provide informal coaching to students on routines, time management, and daily living skills
- Attend campus events to foster social integration and engagement
- Identify and proactively address emerging student concerns (e.g., social anxiety, adjustment challenges), including appropriate interventions, referrals, and follow-up support.
- Collaborate with professional staff to ensure coordinated care and consistent student experience.
- Maintain regular communication with professional staff regarding student progress, concerns, and emerging needs.
- Maintain appropriate documentation of interactions and interventions

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Acceptance into a Muskingum University graduate program
- Bachelor’s degree
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to build supportive relationships with students of varying identities, abilities, and life experiences
- Demonstrated interest in student development, neurodiversity, education, counseling, or related fields
- Ability to recognize student needs and respond with appropriate support and referrals
- Ability to multi-task and function effectively in a dynamic residential environment
- This position requires night and weekend hours
- Willingness to reside in campus housing
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Programs (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
