Interns/Co-ops for the City of Cincinnati may be performing duties in any potential field within the City's structure. These fields may include office-level work/assignments, fieldwork, and/or civic services. The nature of the work will be based on areas of interest, degree programs, or organizational needs. Candidates should have the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. MSD WASTEWATER ENGINEERING DIVISION - PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Mission: Provide planning, design, and project management support to project managers and supervising engineers in the Project Management branch, with emphasis on supporting the Project Managers. Learn aspects of project management by assisting with GIS map development, assist in review of invoices charged to MSD projects, assist in review of construction submittals, develop mailing lists and communications for public communications, and attend training related to civil and environmental engineering. Visit active construction sites to see application of project plans and associated documentation.

Purpose: Gain experiences in and understanding of government public service while providing design and project management support to Project Managers. Provide assistance with a variety of tasks related to planning, design, and construction of sewers, pump stations, detention basins, and other conveyance-related items.

Overview: Be an effective member in a multi-disciplinary team assisting teammates in a professional working environment. Develop communication skills. Learn about project management, specifically planning, design, property acquisition, and construction of various projects. Learn about civil engineering, especially wastewater treatment, sewer design and project management. Assume responsibility for your actions and act in an ethical manner.

Expectations: Learn the basics of AutoCAD Civil 3D while supporting numerous design management efforts, including: assessment sewer planning and concept level design, project legislation, in-house design, and construction cost estimation. Utilize various software platforms to prepare project exhibits. Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability as workflow changes.

Co-Op Learning Milestones

  • Basic understanding of AutoCAD Civil 3D

  • Basic understanding on project and construction budgets
  • Basic understanding of MSD GIS


Education

  • Completed two-semester of undergraduate coursework.
  • Basic understanding of MS Office


In order to qualify for the Intern/Co-op Program, a student must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or a non-citizen with proof of eligibility to work in the United States
  • Individuals under eighteen will require a work permit
  • Be enrolled in an accredited institution and have completed 2 semesters of undergraduate coursework
  • Have a basic understanding of MS Office
  • Submit a City job application for employment
  • Pass a background check and drug screen
