Job Title: Medical Lab Scientist II Job Description

The Medical Lab Scientist II will play a crucial role in the Automated Chemistry Department, responsible for the testing of assigned specimens. This position involves testing and troubleshooting using department-specific instruments and procedures, ensuring quality control, and maintaining equipment. The role also includes training staff, improving processes, and completing special projects.

Responsibilities

• Perform and report on assigned analytical tests in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
• Support and comply with laboratory policies for specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and maintaining patient test results.
• Adhere to analytical schedules to maintain turnaround time for results, including STATS or critical results.
• Ensure reagents/test kits are properly dated and documented.
• Conduct and document quality control analysis to ensure data accuracy and instrument functionality.
• Make informed decisions regarding assay or test disposition based on quality control.
• Escalate issues related to test procedures as necessary.
• Report any deviations from standard testing procedures and assist with investigations.
• Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for standardized reporting.
• Comply with CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements.
• Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, and work practice controls as directed.
• Answer inquiries from clients or other lab personnel.
• Participate in inspections by government or regulatory agencies.

Essential Skills

• Proficiency in Chemistry and Clinical Laboratory procedures.
• Certification as ASCP or C (ASCP) is required.
• Bachelor's degree in a Science-related field, preferably Chemistry or Medical Lab Science.
• Minimum of 1 year of clinical lab experience, preferably in Chemistry.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience as a generalist in clinical laboratory settings is advantageous.
• Strong understanding of laboratory safety and regulatory compliance.

Work Environment

This position is based in a very busy clinical lab environment with increasing volume. Shifts vary and include evenings, weekends, and rotational hours. Shift differentials of 10% apply for evening and weekend work. The lab adheres to strict safety protocols and requires the use of personal protective equipment.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $73500.00 - $81000.00/yr.
