Reports To: Manager of Engineering

Position Summary

The Cooperative is seeking a GIS & Systems Applications Specialist to maintain, enhance, and support our Geographical Information System (GIS) and related applications. This position plays a critical role in ensuring accurate system data, supporting field and operational staff, and integrating new technologies that improve efficiency, reliability, and decision-making across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and update the Cooperative’s Geographical Information System (GIS) and integrated software applications.
• Develop and support new GIS and database applications to enhance system functionality and user capabilities.
• Assist in the development of mobile data applications and provide technical support to field personnel.
• Operate Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment in the field to collect and assign real-world coordinates to system assets.
• Develop and implement quality assurance procedures to ensure accuracy and integrity of GIS data and integrated systems.
• Integrate new datasets into GIS, ensuring proper validation, documentation, and usability.
• Provide software and hardware training to Cooperative employees.
• Support and develop SCADA system applications , including database updates, display development, and device checkout.
• Maintain the pole inventory and inspection database , coordinating with pole inspection contractors to:
• Provide required data
• Receive inspection results
• Validate and incorporate data into Cooperative systems
• Monitor and update changes affecting geographic and land base information, including:
• Highways, roads, lakes, rivers, creeks, and wetlands
• City and township limits
• District lines, tax districts, and service territories
• Easements and right-of-way information
• Stay current on emerging technologies, software, and industry best practices; actively pursue training and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Experience with GIS platforms, database systems, and mobile data collection tools preferred.
• Knowledge of electric utility systems, SCADA, or infrastructure asset management is a plus.
• Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and data accuracy.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with field, engineering, and operations staff.
• Effective communication and training skills.
