Featuring a seasonal patio that overlooks the Cuyahoga River, the River Merchant is Kent's premier riverfront restaurant. We are located at 911 North Mantua Street in Kent, OH; our hours of operation are: 5 PM–9:30 PM (Mon), 11 AM–9:30 PM (Tue–Thu and Sun) and 11 AM–10:30 PM (Fri–Sat).

We are seeking a talented and experienced Line Cook to help our kitchen team, contribute to mutual goals across the restaurant, and elevate our clientele’s dining experience.

Job Summary

We are looking for a multi-station line cook ( full-time with PM-shift availability ) who is willing to contribute to our team goals, is calm under pressure, dependable, diligent, and communicative. In applying for this position, applicants will be cross-trained on multiple stations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Cross train on all stations including: Expo, Grill, Fry, Pantry, Prep and Dish
• Stock and re-stock all food items on designated station
• Maintains sanitary procedures throughout the shift according to health and safety regulations
• Verbally articulates what is needed with ease; communicates well with other restaurant staff
• Handles rudimentary kitchen equipment (e.g., knives, deep-fryers, ovens, grills) comfortably
• Follows instructions, recipes, and guidelines proficiently
• Follows the provided opening and/or closing responsibility protocols, including cleaning and maintenance tasks
• Comfortable asking questions if something is unclear or needs to be restated

Qualifications:

• Reliable transportation to/from the River Merchant (Kent, OH) ( Required )
• Available to work closing and mid shifts ( Required )
• Previous experience in a similar role ( Preferred )
• Good communication skills, including the ability to vocalize properly, listen effectively, and provide insightful feedback as needed
• Excellent organizational and multitasking skills
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
• Attention to detail with a strong focus on cleanliness and proper procedure
• Able to lift and carry up to 50 lb, climb ladders, and operate equipment
• Able to stand and walk for the duration of the shift
