Job Overview

The Assistant Director of the Hoffman Honors Scholars (HHS) Program is responsible for day-to-day operations, programming, and student engagement efforts that bring the program’s vision to life. Working closely with the Director, the Assistant Director ensures a dynamic and high-impact HHS experience for students across HHS colleges. This position is ideal for a dynamic, detail-oriented professional who thrives in collaborative environments and is passionate about enriching the academic and co-curricular experience of high-achieving students.

Essential Functions

Curriculum & Student Experience

  • Lead the implementation of co-curricular programming across HHS’s four pillars – community commitment, leadership excellence, global engagement, digital literacy – with a special focus on development of digital literacy and leadership.
  • Develop and implement programming in AI and digital literacy.
  • Manage and facilitate leadership development programming.
  • Design and manage cross-disciplinary projects with Hoffman partners based on community needs / student interests, in partnership with the Director.
  • Organize forums, speakers, and networking events to connect students with thought leaders and professionals.
  • Plan and host regular social events to foster belonging and cross-cohort connection.
  • Assist director in implementation of Welcome Retreat and Welcome Reception.
  • Assist director in management of HHS Ambassadors training, development, and programming needs.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of programming to inform future improvements.

Advising & Student Success

  • Serve as an advisor and coach for HHS students (currently ~30, will grow to 80-100).
  • Teach Gateway to University Honors course – a section specifically designed for HHS students.
  • Integrate HHS vision and student learning outcomes into engagement with students.
  • Advise students and help them develop a sense of belonging in HHS and at UC.
  • Support students in achieving academic and personal goals while fostering a strong sense of belonging.
  • Support students in achieving career goals through intentional advising and HHS networks.
  • Partner with the UHP to ensure students leverage the opportunities provided to them there.
  • Partner with the Office of Nationally Competitive Awards to encourage student engagement in scholarship and fellowship processes.
  • Track, analyze, and report on student success outcomes to inform program development.

Program Operations & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Manage logistics for all program activities, including scheduling, event coordination, catering, and communications.
  • Support admissions recruitment, selection, and yield processes in partnership with the director, including application review and interview logistics.
  • Contribute to alumni engagement and post-graduation programming as the cohorts mature.
  • Build and sustain relationships with campus partners and external stakeholders to strengthen the program’s reach and impact.

Other

  • Participate in HHS programs and events, including some evening and weekend commitments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the evolving needs of the program. This job description can be changed at any time.

Required Education

Master's Degree

Required Experience

  • Three (3) years of experience. At least one (1) year of experience working directly with students in a student learning capacity (experiential learning, academic advising, teaching, academic support, or other student affairs or student learning capacity or similar).
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Graduate Assistantship experience in experiential learning, academic advising, teaching, academic support, or other student affairs or student learning capacity or similar areas may be considered

Comprehensive Tuition Remission

UC provides tuition remission for you and your eligible dependents, covering tuition costs for nearly all undergraduate and graduate programs offered by the university.

As a UC employee, you won’t contribute to Social Security (except Medicare). Instead, you’ll choose between state pension plans (OPERS, STRS) or an Alternative Retirement Plan (ARP), with UC contributing 14–18% of your salary based on position.
