GENERAL SUMMARY: The Lead Logistics Planner has the responsibility of assisting other Logistics Planners to accurately forecasting bulk product deliveries by planning and adjusting scheduled trips to ensure customer service levels and efficiency of operations with available resources while supporting the Airgas Merchant Gases safety culture and adherence to DOT rules and regulations. The Lead Logistics Planner covers while Planners are out and have the knowledge to shift from desk to desk and a general working knowledge of the customers in their assigned territory.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operational Duties

  • Forecasting, adjusting, planning and scheduling deliveries of bulk cryogenic gases in a timely and efficient manner by confirming systems data (tank readings, telemetry readings, planned deliveries) to determine and adjust delivery schedule for all accounts.

  • Ensure uninterrupted supply of bulk gasses to internal and external customers. Frequent communication with customers to ensure adequate supply of product is in storage and adjust delivery schedule to meet and exceed customer expectations. Handle diverse issues of internal and external customers in a timely manner.

  • Monitor, estimate and forecast customer usage rates to determine delivery requirements. Proactively reach out to our customers to understand usage changes and production plans

Communication & Collaboration:

  • Extensive communication and coordination with production, distribution and sales departments within Airgas which includes drivers, terminal managers, maintenance personnel, customer service technicians and others to carry out daily functions.

  • Support the Airgas safety culture through planning safe deliveries to customer sites and encouraging drivers to adhere to DOT rules and regulations

  • Utilize multiple computer-based tools such as our ALTO scheduling software, PeopleNet onboard computer, SCADA plant storage data, PI Vision, PowerBI, and telemetry

Team Lead Duties

  • Takes a leadership role within the Logistics office and assists in training new hires. Ability to assist in the running of the logistics floor, by helping peers with their job duties as needed. Excellent computer skills with attention to detail to confirm systems data (tank readings, telemetry readings, planned deliveries); determine and adjust delivery schedule for customer accounts.

  • Assist in the Service Interruption review process and other special projects as needed. Strong focus on meeting customer expectations through forecasting and scheduling deliveries of bulk cryogenic gases. Assist with resolving complex planning concerns and issues.

  • Responsible for modeling and reinforcing the Be Act Engage principles and creating an engaging environment for the planners and associates they help lead.

Are you a MATCH?

Required Education:

  • College degree with emphasis in operations management, logistics or business administration is required.

    • Will accept three years of logistics planning experience at Airgas in lieu of a college degree for internal candidates.

Required Length & Type of Experience:

  • Two years of prior relevant experience required

  • Experience in the transportation or logistics industry required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to prioritize workload, meet deadlines and understand when to escalate potential issues

  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment.

  • Excellent organization skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to use tact and diplomacy; and be able to build effective relationships with all levels and roles in the organization

  • Self motivated and self directed

  • Analytical abilities with keen attention to detail

  • Ability to recognize discrepancies and resolve problems quickly using sound judgment, poise and diplomacy

  • Ability to use judgment and reasoning skills, and determine when issues need to be escalated

  • Strong follow up skills

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals

  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages
