We are seeking a Financial Controller to lead our Finance team and oversee all key financial operations, ensuring fiscal stability, compliance, and strategic financial planning across the organization.

Position Overview

The Financial Controller will manage a high-performing Finance team and oversee accounting, budgeting, payroll, accounts payable, internal controls, and financial reporting. This role also serves as the primary financial liaison for external stakeholders, including county mental health boards, the Ohio Department of Medicaid, the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, and key vendors.

This position requires a hands-on leader who excels in managing complex financial operations while providing strategic insight to support organizational growth and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Oversight
    • Supervise a finance team of 4–7 staff members, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in daily operations.
    • Provide coaching, training, and performance management to support staff development and operational excellence.
  • Financial Reporting & Analysis
    • Manage month-end closing processes, including reconciliations, accruals, and variance analysis.
    • Prepare and present monthly financial reports, board updates, and cash flow forecasts.
    • Deliver actionable insights through program-level financial reports for clinical and operational leaders.
  • Audit & Compliance
    • Lead the annual audit process, including preparation of work papers, reconciliations, and coordination with external auditors.
    • Ensure financial reporting compliance with GAAP, grant guidelines, and internal controls.
  • Budgeting & Strategic Planning
    • Oversee the preparation and monitoring of annual operating and capital budgets.
    • Analyze trends, regulatory changes, and reimbursement impacts to inform financial planning.
  • Cash Flow & Grants Management
    • Monitor cash flow and manage banking relationships, loan covenants, and credit lines.
    • Oversee the accounting, reporting, and compliance of all grants and contracts.
Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
    • MBA preferred.
    • CPA certification strongly preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 5–7 years of finance leadership experience, preferably in a healthcare or behavioral health setting.
    • Demonstrated expertise in fiscal management, cash flow oversight, and internal controls.
    • Strong knowledge of Medicaid, Medicare, and third-party payer regulations.
  • Skills:
    • Exceptional critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
    • Proficiency in financial systems, Microsoft Excel, Word, and database integration.
    • Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to build collaborative relationships.
  • Other Requirements:
    • CPI certification required (can be obtained after hire).
    • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed for operational demands.
