Summary

The Human Resources Benefits Manager is responsible for strategic planning, administration, compliance, and communication of employee benefits programs. This role works with the Benefits Director to ensure that benefit offerings are competitive, cost-effective, and aligned with the organization's goals and employee needs. The Benefits Manager will serve as a subject matter expert and work with the Benefits Director for all benefit-related matters.

ESSENTIAL DEPARTMENTAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Benefits Administration
  • Assist in the day-to-day administration of employee benefits programs including health, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, retirement plans, and wellness initiatives.
  • Process benefit enrollments, changes, and terminations in HRIS and with vendors.
  • Manage the tuition benefits process and payments and participate in the Tuition Benefits Task Force
  • Employee Support
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding benefit plans, eligibility, coverage, and claims and support for life/qualifying events.
  • Schedule and conduct benefits orientation sessions for new employees and coordinate annual open enrollment activities.
  • Vendor Coordination
  • Liaise with insurance carriers and third-party administrators to resolve issues and ensure smooth service delivery.
  • Monitor and reconcile monthly benefit invoices and report discrepancies.

Compliance & Documentation
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA).
  • Assist in the preparation and filing of required reports such as 5500s, ACA filings, and audits.
Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree with to 3-5 years of Human Resources' experience or related professional experience in Higher Education or a non-profit environment.
  • Master's Degree preferred.
  • HRIS experience is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of legal and statutory issues related to human resource operations, including but not limited to Compensation, PPACA, COBRA, HIPPA, FMLA, ADA, etc.

  • Thorough knowledge of benefit and employment related laws and regulations. Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and HRIS Software.
Work Environment

This role is in an office environment. This is a primarily sedentary role but requires some delivery and travel between buildings and departments. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Multi-tasking and prioritizing projects.
