Job Description

In this role, you will contribute to the planning, design, and execution of high-voltage transmission line projects that support the modernization and reliability of the electric grid. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, interface with clients, and help deliver innovative, cost-effective solutions.

Responsibilities

• Develop detailed engineering designs for overhead transmission lines ranging from 34.5 kV to 500 kV and above.
• Perform structural analysis and design of transmission line components using industry-standard software (e.g., PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole, PLS-Tower, SAG10).
• Prepare plan and profile drawings, structure loading trees, conductor sag/tension calculations, and material specifications.
• Evaluate route alternatives, line optimization strategies, and constructability considerations.
• Support project planning, cost estimating, scheduling, and risk assessment.
• Coordinate with civil, electrical, environmental, and construction teams to ensure integrated project delivery.
• Review vendor drawings, equipment specifications, and construction submittals.
• Assist with field assessments, site visits, and construction support as needed.
• Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and drafters.
• Participate in internal design reviews and quality assurance processes.
• Communicate effectively with clients, utilities, and stakeholders to understand project requirements and deliver high-quality solutions.

Essential Skills

• Proficiency in PLS-CADD, AutoCAD, and related design engineering software.
• Strong experience in transmission line design and high-voltage engineering.
• Experience with power distribution and transmission line design.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Engineering and design expertise in overhead transmission lines.
• Experience in project execution, including planning, scheduling, and risk assessment.
• Ability to lead a team and manage client-facing opportunities.

Work Environment

The role is based in a professional engineering office with the flexibility of a 9-80 work schedule, allowing the opportunity to be off every other Friday. The company is employee-owned, offering leadership advancement, and the chance to lead your own team and projects.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Columbus, OH.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $70.00/hr.
