The Applications Engineer (Gas and Vapor phase) is responsible for support of new products, improvements to existing products and support of scale-up of said products, with particular focus on specialty impregnated carbons for respirator applications and other gas filtration products (e.g., home air filter, vapor recovery, odor control, biogas, air purification). This position will also provide technical support to Jacobi’s customers and Sales and Business Development teams within these market segments (industrial & military respirators and consumer products). The Applications Engineer reports to the Technical and Site Services Director in Columbus, OH.

Essential Accountabilities:

Sales Support

· Support sales personnel with customer issues related to respiratory health standards and indoor air quality standards through direct customer interactions, including customer visits.

· Respond to customer inquiries and questions on applications in a timely manner.

· Manage workflows for sales/technical related activities including sampling and testing of products, new product qualifications, field pilot trials, and joint development work.

· Contribute and write marketing materials for publication in various formats including company websites, magazines, LinkedIn, etc.

· Lead technical training and webinars for new and existing customers on the concepts of gas phase adsorption and application of activated carbons.

· Conduct development of test methods when standard methods do not exist to test these products.

· Work with the Laboratory Manager to specify and procure laboratory equipment and supplies when needed to develop in-house test methods for gas and vapor phase testing.

· Assist sales team on quality issues and specifications of products, per the above.

· Attend conferences and meetings related to industrial hygiene, indoor air quality, respiratory health and any other topics related to gas phase applications.

· Understand various government standards impacting JCI products.

· Participate in boards and committees related to the above.

· As requested by manager, prepare CAPEX requests justifying cost, time, and ROI as required for purchases of updated equipment and/or supplies.

· As requested by the manager, assist in training Laboratory Technicians for standard gas phase testing (methods, sample prep, equipment, instrumentation).

· Prepare written reports on results of studies or other projects for internal distribution within JCI or for distribution to customers.

Development Support

· Support JCI product development projects on new gas phase carbon products developed in conjunction with the Senior Product Development Engineer including supervision or execution of performance and validation testing of existing products and prototype carbons.

· Utilize statistical tools to prepare run charts, design of experiments, gage R&R studies, and other analysis to determine product quality, process control, and set specification limits.

· Keep abreast of new technologies to be incorporated into the laboratory to reduce testing time and/or increase reliability and efficiency.

· Follow good laboratory practices, safety precautions, and PPE requirements as specified by MSDS or company policy with respect to operation of the gas testing lab.

Previous Work & Educational Requirements:

· Master’s degree in chemistry or mechanical or chemical engineering, coupled with 3-5 years of experience, is required. Experience and understanding of the respirator market is strongly desired in this position.

· Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree in chemistry or chemical engineering, coupled with a minimum of 10 years of experience.

· Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

· Familiarity with gas and vapor phase treatment methodologies.

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

· Must possess various software skills including MS Suites

· Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

· Willingness to work on tasks and projects outside the stated scope as needed.

· Spanish speaking a plus for support of LATAM markets.

· Travel up to 25% of the time to meetings, conferences, and customer sites.
