Well-established, successful manufacturer is hiring a Quality Engineer to join their team. The Quality Engineer will report to the Engineering Manager and have the opportunity to be diverse in their quality job responsibilities. In this role you will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Lead and improve the supplier quality system
- Communicate with customers and serve as the point of contact for quality issues
- Assist the manufacturing floor with quality issues and concerns, including completing root cause analysis and implementing countermeasures
- Utilize formal problem solving techniques
- Perform internal and external quality audits
- Monitor and document PCRs (process change requests)
- Create and maintain PPAPs for the site
- Champion the site QMS, including finding opportunities for improvements
- Maintain and improve compliance goals related to the quality management system
- Partner with external quality labs as needed
- Other quality engineering tasks as assigned
Candidates must be able to communicate directly and effectively at all levels, be self-motivated, take initiative on projects, work on multiple tasks and be hands on. This position requires candidates to be on the manufacturing floor up to 30% of their day. Individuals should have excellent floor communication skills and be able to effectively communicate with front line associates. Candidates should be hands on with their quality duties. REQUIREMENTS for the Quality Engineer:
1. High school diploma; a Bachelor’s degree is highly preferred
2. Depending on the level of education, at least 3-5 years of similar quality engineering experience
3. Experience performing quality functions in a manufacturing environment; automotive suppliers highly preferred
4. Experience with formal problem solving techniques
5. Experience leading root cause analysis and implementing countermeasures
6. Experience with quality audits
7. Experience working in ISO or IATF 16949 quality management systems
8. General knowledge of PPAPs
9. Willingness to travel to Mexico with others, up to twice per year
10. Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs
Skills preferred but NOT required:
1. Six Sigma or Lean certifications
2. Quality certifications
3. Supervision experience
4. Supplier quality experience
