Job Description

The Industrial Maintenance Technician maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs industrial machinery and facility systems to support continuous production. This role combines reactive maintenance with scheduled preventive maintenance, focusing on 480V three-phase electrical systems, mechanical systems, and general facility upkeep. The technician reads and interprets technical documentation, uses a wide range of tools and test equipment, and ensures safe, reliable operation of equipment and plant facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide emergency and unscheduled repairs on production machinery and equipment to minimize downtime and keep operations running smoothly.
  • Perform regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment, and plant facilities according to a defined preventive maintenance schedule.
  • Troubleshoot and repair industrial machines, with a strong emphasis on reactive maintenance and the ability to respond quickly to breakdowns in real time.
  • Work with 480V three-phase electrical systems, including wiring and troubleshooting three-phase motors and related components.
  • Use multimeters and other test equipment to diagnose electrical issues, verify power, and ensure proper operation of circuits and motors.
  • Perform basic facility maintenance such as changing light bulbs, replacing ballasts, and providing general maintenance support in office and plant areas.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals, technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical problems, replace or repair parts, test equipment, and make necessary adjustments to restore proper operation.
  • Use a variety of hand tools, power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment to safely perform maintenance tasks.
  • Identify faulty or unsafe operations, equipment, or processes and promptly report issues to appropriate supervision.
  • Comply with and help enforce all safety regulations and procedures, including lockout/tagout and other safety protocols.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and orderly work areas to support safe and efficient operations.
  • Manage, document, and track maintenance activities using a computerized preventive maintenance and work request system.
  • Support troubleshooting of systems that may include hydraulics, pneumatics, conveyors, and basic PLC-controlled equipment.
  • Assist with basic automation and control troubleshooting as needed, escalating complex issues when appropriate.

Essential Skills

  • At least 3 years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Proven experience with mechanical troubleshooting of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Knowledge of electrical troubleshooting on equipment up to 480-volt, three-phase power.
  • Ability to wire and troubleshoot three-phase motors, including testing and verification using a multimeter.
  • Working knowledge of safety protocols such as lockout/tagout and adherence to plant safety procedures.
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing equipment utilizing hydraulic and pneumatic systems, conveyors, and PLC-based controls.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, equipment drawings, blueprints, and electrical schematics.
  • Experience using hand tools and powered tools safely and effectively in an industrial setting.
  • Capability to use electric meters and other diagnostic tools to troubleshoot electrical and electronic issues.
  • Comfort working in a reactive maintenance environment, responding quickly to machine breakdowns during production.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to document work accurately in a computerized maintenance management or work request system.
  • Ability to identify unsafe conditions and communicate issues clearly to supervision.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with boiler maintenance and associated systems.
  • Exposure to PLC troubleshooting and programming, including ladder logic.
  • Automation troubleshooting experience, including sensors and control devices.
  • Familiarity with variable frequency drives (VFDs) and sensor-based control systems.
  • Experience reading advanced electrical and control schematics for automation equipment.
  • Comfort working with automation, robotics, or other advanced manufacturing technologies.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with production, engineering, and other maintenance team members.

Work Environment

This role operates in a clean, organized, and well-maintained manufacturing facility. The environment is mild in temperature and well lit, providing a comfortable and safe workspace. The plant floor is relatively quiet, and employees may listen to headphones with one earbud during work, subject to safety guidelines. Openings are available on 2nd shift (1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.) and 3rd shift (9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.), both with a shift differential. The position involves hands-on work with industrial equipment, including 480V three-phase electrical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, conveyors, and basic PLC-controlled machinery. Technicians use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment, and record their work in a computerized maintenance and work request system. Appropriate attire includes gym shoes and casual dress, along with required eye protection and other personal protective equipment as specified by plant safety policies.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cleveland, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $34.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
