Job Overview

The UC Cancer Center Biospecimen Shared Resource (BSR) and Clinical Trial Office Laboratory (CTO Lab) are currently seeking an experienced candidate for a full-time, office-based Clinical Research Manager. The Clinical Research Manager will provide support and oversight of human biospecimen collection, processing, storage, and/or distribution for clinical trials and translational research projects.
Essential Functions
- Daily oversight of laboratory personnel and operations to ensure correct and timely completion of all required tasks.
- Manage all biospecimen logistics in support of UCCC Clinical Trial Office Laboratory (CTO Lab) and Biospecimen Shared Resource (BSR), including but not limited to, collection, handling, and distribution of human biospecimens for industry sponsored clinical trials, investigator-initiated clinical trials, translational research, and biobanking.
- Serve as the primary person for biospecimen inventory and tracking between clinical sites, the BSR/CTO Lab, and recipient laboratories. Oversee daily biospecimen tracking and shipment, database updates, and reconciliation of missing or incorrectly processed samples, and related documentation.
- Review new clinical trials and translational research projects for feasibility and prepare the laboratory to support new studies by ensuring that personnel are trained in all relevant procedures.
- Ensure the availability of reagents, supplies, shipping materials, etc. required to facilitate the collection, processing, storage, and/or distribution of biospecimens through direct purchasing and/or coordination with UCCC Clinical Trial Office personnel and sponsors.
- Communication and coordination with internal and external clinical trial coordinators and clinical staff to ensure the accurate and timely collection and/or receipt of biospecimens.
- Oversight and routine auditing of records to ensure biospecimens are being processed appropriately and that documentation relating to the receipt, storage, and shipment (chain of custody) of human biospecimens is accurate and complete.
- Develop and revise, as needed, laboratory manuals for investigator-initiated clinical trials, as well as standard operating procedures and guidance documents for routine biospecimen handling, laboratory instrument/equipment use and maintenance, software use and maintenance, etc.
- Collaborate with internal team members to revise or improve sample management processes, tools, or procedures, ensuring seamless and fluid integration.
- Identify and present process improvement opportunities to BSR and CTO Directors.
- Responsible for lab budgeting, inclusive of ongoing operational revenue and expense and projection and management of study-related biospecimen costs.
- Participate in the informed consent process, collection, processing, storage, and distribution of biospecimens as needed to ensure correct and timely completion of all required daily tasks.
Required Education
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Nine (9) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.
Required Experience
Five (5) years related experience.
