Cardiac Stepdown RN Job Details

• Location: Dayton, Ohio (45409) – Premier destination for Ohio nursing jobs with excellent dining, cultural attractions, and outdoor recreation.
• Unit: SE6 Heart and Vascular Unit (36 beds)
• Employment Type: Travel RN (Locum Tenens)
• Shift: Night shift, 4x12-hour shifts (19:00 - 07:30)
• Hours per Week: 36
• Contract Duration: 13 weeks (manager prefers 16-20 weeks)
• Start Date: September 15, 2025
• End Date: December 15, 2025
• Patient Ratios: 1:4-6
• Scrubs: Navy Blue
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $1950-$2000

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Minimum 1.5 years of recent Cardiac Stepdown or Progressive Care Unit (PCU/SD) RN experience (ICU experience does not count toward SD/PCU)
• Experience with CABG and valve replacement patients
• Demonstrated history of managing 1:5 patient ratios
• Active RN license (any state or compact nursing license accepted)
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• NIHSS certification required
• EPIC EMR charting experience required
• Ability to pass online EKG/telemetry competency assessment
• IV start and cardiac drip titration skills; ability to read and interpret EKG strips
• Travel nursing experience preferred
• Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions accepted)
• Availability to work every other weekend and holiday
• Willingness to float to other units/campuses as needed

Cardiac Stepdown RN Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality nursing care to cardiac stepdown patients, including pre- and post-op open heart management (CABG, valve, mitral clip, TAVR, thoracotomy, etc.)
• Monitor and manage advanced cardiac patients with continuous telemetry
• Care for patients with lung cases (pneumothorax, hemothorax, chest tube, zephyr valve)
• Administer and titrate cardiac and insulin drips
• Start IVs and manage central/PICC lines
• Interpret EKG strips and recognize dysrhythmias
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams (IV, PT, RT, pharmacy, social services, etc.)
• Float to other nursing units/campuses as assigned
• Maintain accurate documentation using EPIC EMR
• Follow infection control and isolation protocols
