Funeral Director & Embalmer #1508
A distinguished funeral home serving the Cleveland community seeks a Licensed Funeral Director to become part of their leadership team. This respected establishment has built a strong reputation for providing outstanding care to families navigating their most challenging moments.

The successful candidate will demonstrate funeral directing proficiency alongside operational management skills to uphold the exceptional standards this facility represents.
This is an onsite, permanent role.
Essential Responsibilities
Family Support & Funeral Services:
- Ensure families receive exceptional, personalized service that exceeds expectations
- Coordinate all aspects of services including removals, transfers, preparation, and logistics
- Facilitate arrangement conferences with families, negotiate funeral contracts, and present available services, merchandise, and benefits including veterans' recognition
- Preside as Master of Ceremonies for visitations, funeral services, and graveside ceremonies
- Handle pre-need arrangements and provide aftercare to families
- Arrange and conduct funeral and memorial ceremonies in accordance with customs and traditions with professionalism and compassion
Management of Operations:
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and service quality
- Monitor facility, grounds, vehicles, and equipment maintenance ensuring professional appearance and proper working order
- Ensure compliance with all professional, municipal, state, and federal licensing regulations
- Manage inventory of caskets, funeral supplies, and merchandise
- Complete and accurately prepare all required documentation, contracts, legal documents, and reports
- Manage day-to-day operations including scheduling, staffing, and resource allocation to ensure seamless service delivery
Business & Financial Oversight:
- Support initiatives to encourage profitable case volume growth
- Monitor operational expenses, approve expenditures, and control costs effectively
- Support business planning and achievement of financial goals
Team Leadership & Coordination:
- Provide oversight, coaching, and support for staff development
- Communicate expectations clearly and maintain service excellence standards
- Foster a sense of ownership and pride among team members
- Guide and direct funeral home staff to ensure cohesive, high-quality service delivery
Engagement with Community:
- Represent the funeral home with professionalism and cultural sensitivity
- Build and maintain strong relationships within the community and local religious organizations
- Participate in community, civic, and religious organizations to strengthen the funeral home's presence
Safety & Compliance:
- Promote and maintain a safe, healthy work environment
- Ensure adherence to all licensing regulations, company policies, and industry best practices

Essential Requirements
Mandatory Requirements
Education & Licensing:
- Valid driver's license
- Technical diploma in Funeral Services or Mortuary Science
- Bachelor's degree in Mortuary Science or related field as required by state law preferred
- Active Funeral Director license in the state of Ohio (must meet all Ohio licensing requirements as prescribed by the state board)
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Professional Background:
- Minimum 1-2 years of funeral service industry experience
- Demonstrated progression of responsibilities throughout career
- Experience managing daily operations in a funeral home environment
- Completed internship for Funeral Director
- Proven track record of providing exceptional service to families
Preferred Qualifications (not required)
- Track record of community engagement and business development
- Knowledge of HMIS, InfoPort, and CarePoint systems
- Prior experience managing people and leading a funeral home team
- Extensive experience with Jewish funeral customs and traditions highly preferred - deep familiarity with Jewish funeral rites, burial practices, religious requirements, and cultural sensitivities
- Licensed Embalmer certification (dual Funeral Director/Embalmer license)
- Experience working in premier or high-volume funeral locations

- Proficiency with computers and MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including public speaking abilities
- Ability to work with diverse families during emotionally sensitive times

Schedule Flexibility:
- Commitment to being available when families need support
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as services require
