Job Summary:

As a CDL Driver at Value Added Packaging, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe delivery of goods to our customers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Ensure all DOT regulations are being met.

2. Complete daily, weekly and monthly checklists of cleanliness, safety, and maintenance.

3. Interact in a professional manner with customers providing the best customer service possible.

4. Ensure the product is delivered as specified by the organization's schedule or customer’s request.

5. Coordinate all preventative maintenance issues with the Mighty Maintenance Man to ensure continuous operation and safety.

6. Support the organization’s shipping and receiving departments as necessary to ensure the product is being received or shipped in a timely manner.

7. Support all functions as necessary at all organization locations ensuring complete accuracy and trailer utilization.

8. Follow VAP’s and customer safety standards.

9. Ensure all product loaded in vehicles is loaded in an appropriate manner to provide a safe and adequate delivery.

10. Maintain personal DOT physical and license requirements as specified by federal and state laws

11. Build positive relationships with clients and maintain VAP’s behavioral standards.

12. Manage time appropriately based on the distance to and from customers’ locations and their preferred delivery/dock times.

13. Avoid conflict with customers or other representatives of the customer’s facility.

14. Bring new ideas to VAP on potential customer process improvements.

Qualifications:

• Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required
• Minimum 21 years of age
• Minimum of 1–2 years of recent Class A CDL driving experience preferred
• Clean driving record with no major violations (e.g., DUI, reckless driving) within the past 3–5 years
• Ability to pass a DOT physical examination and maintain a current Medical Examiner’s Certificate
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check
• Knowledge of FMCSA regulations and Hours of Service (HOS) compliance
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Ability to conduct pre-trip/post-trip inspections and perform minor vehicle maintenance as needed

Education and Training

High school diploma or equivalent. Additional technical training or certifications in machine operation is a plus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the team member will primarily work in a mobile environment, operating commercial motor vehicles such as tractor-trailers and/or box trucks. The role involves spending extended periods of time on the road, often driving in varying weather, traffic, and road conditions. Drivers may be required to load and unload cargo, perform pre- and post-trip inspections, and ensure compliance with all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Work hours can vary based on route assignments and delivery schedules, and may include early mornings and late evenings. The position may involve working independently for long stretches, with communication via mobile or dispatch systems. While the job can be physically demanding, involving lifting and maneuvering heavy materials, it also requires strong attention to safety, time management, and customer service. Drivers must adhere to all safety protocols, maintain a clean driving record, and represent the company in a professional and courteous manner during interactions with clients and the public.
