The Sub Section Manager - Process Assurance - U.S. Power, reports to the Section Manager for Process Assurance and Governance within the Chief Engineer's Office. In this role, you will lead a team of approximately 9 Process Assurance Engineers, enabling the team to perform their activities effectively in accordance with the strategy set by the Section Manager. In addition, you will conduct activities to assure engineering compliance to applicable regulatory, industry, customer, and company standards.

The ultimate mission of Process Assurance is to provide independent assurance that engineering plans and processes are followed and that engineering outputs are the result of suitable, rigorous, and structured processes enacted throughout the product lifecycle.

At GE Aerospace in Dayton, OH the EPISCenter is the headquarters for all of Aviation Power Engineering. At this facility you have an opportunity to put your engineering training and skills to use. Our Engineers are focused and challenged on developing new technologies and delivering state of the art products such as Hybrid Electric aircraft, the latest military platforms, and SiC technology to name a few. Plus, if you like hands-on work, there is also a 155,000 sq ft lab that includes 6 high power test cells totaling 15 MW, an EMI chamber, an electronics lab, a rapid build prototype lab, and a real time simulator lab with all the latest equipment.

Job Description

Role & Responsibilities
  • Implement strategies and tactics per the Process Assurance Section Leader while providing frequent, timely, and accurate feedback
  • Ensure Process Assurance Engineers are trained and equipped to perform their assigned tasks, raising concerns or challenges as necessary
  • Perform daily, weekly, monthly, and annual management activities according to organizational rhythms
  • Ensure Process Assurance records are maintained, metrics collected, and reports given back to the business
  • Evaluate, develop, and publish compliance health metrics and audit results to the project team and stakeholders
  • Interface with, and provide support to, regulatory authorities, customer representatives, and supplier representatives
  • Analyze and interpret metrics and trend data to identify systemic issues and process improvement opportunities
  • Develop Process Assurance organizational expertise and contribute to the growth of Process Assurance Engineers
  • Support Bid and Proposals to ensure Process Assurance activities are accurately defined and funded on development programs
  • Collaborate effectively with other departments to identify problems, coordinate actions, and deliver timely solutions
  • Leads the deployment and implementation of FLIGHT DECK principles across the team to drive continuous improvement.
  • Leads early, cross-functional problem solving to safeguard customer commitments and strengthen P&L results
  • Lead and coordinate remote site teams, setting clear goals, monitoring performance, and providing regular coaching and support

In addition, the Sub Section Manager - Process Assurance - U.S. Power may be expected to fulfill the expectations of a Process Assurance Engineer, as necessary, in balance with management responsibilities:
  • Be responsible for providing independent assurance to external standards (including governmental, industrial, and contractual) as applicable to Power products
  • Conduct assessments / audits of engineering activities to gauge compliance with applicable regulatory, industrial, and company standards via audit, review, and other methods
  • Review technical documentation with a view to Process Assurance and compliance requirements
  • Generate and follow Process Assurance Plans for Avionics products and programs
  • Contribute to the success of product development teams through active and early engagement
  • Provide expert advice on lessons learned to Engineering teams
  • Manage customer issues and actions in a timely, professional manner
  • Lead and facilitate NC investigations

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business or related field from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Process Assurance or Engineering role

  • Ability and willingness to travel as needed both domestically and internationally based on business needs
  • This is an onsite position located in Dayton, OH

Desired Characteristics
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in aerospace engineering and/or airborne formal product development
  • A minimum of 3 years of direct people leadership experience
  • Familiarity with commercial & military quality site requirements, engineering practices and associated industry standards, policies and procedures
  • Extensive professional experience in aerospace engineering and process assurance
  • Experience in leading teams in a demanding, complex environment
  • Experience in leading or working with multi-site cross-functional teams
  • Strong leadership skills and a command of the GE leadership behaviors
  • Proven ability to communicate clearly and professionally with internal teams at all levels and with external customers.
  • Strong personal code of ethics and high levels of integrity
  • Strong understanding of aircraft certification processes (esp. FAA, EASA)
  • Strong knowledge of the Process Assurance aspects of RTCA/DO-178C, RTCA/DO-254, RTCA/DO-297, RTCA/DO-330, SAE ARP4754B
