Substitute art teacher

We are seeking a Long-Term Substitute Art Teacher to fill a temporary teaching position during a planned leave of absence. This role will run from January 5, 2026 to May 22, 2026 . The ideal candidate will align with our classical education mission and provide students with a rich experience in both art history and studio art.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

· Deliver instruction aligned with the classical education model and the school’s mission.

· Teach art history and studio practice within a content-rich, chronological curriculum grounded in classical and traditional Western art.

· Provide students with a foundation in drawing, painting, and design techniques while cultivating an appreciation for beauty, craftsmanship, and artistic discipline.

· Create a classroom environment rooted in attentiveness, order, and respect, where students can focus and thrive.

· Encourage intellectual curiosity and elevate students' tastes by exposing them to great works of art across time.

· Assess and evaluate student progress through a combination of formative and summative methods.

· Communicate clearly and consistently with students, parents, and colleagues regarding student performance, expectations, and classroom activities.

· Participate in school events, art exhibitions, professional development, and community engagement activities.

· Uphold and model the school’s mission, virtues, and high behavioral standards.

· Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree or higher (preferred).

· Previous experience in classical education is preferred, but not required.

· Commitment to model moral character in line with the school’s core virtues and the pursuit of the Good, True, and Beautiful.

· Possess exceptional interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.

· Demonstrated ability to and experience in engaging the interest and wonder of school-age children.

· Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member.

· Demonstrates a commitment to continued personal and professional growth, and a commitment to model wonder, curiosity, and a passion for lifelong learning.

· Must clear a current background check through the BCI/FBI.
