Job Description:
Wittenberg University is seeking applications for a Head Coach for the Football program. This is a full-time, 12-month position reporting to the Vice President and Director of Athletics. The Head Coach will lead all aspects of an NCAA Division III Football program.
Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
- Recruitment of student athletes.
- Hire, mentor and manage all of the football coaching staff.
- Oversee and manage the football budget, and operate within budget constraints. Coordinate all expenditures and commitments with division leadership to ensure fund approval and availability.
- Administer and lead every facet of the entire football program.
- Plan and lead practices.
- Develop and lead strategies and prepare the team for competitions.
- Oversee and administer the complete operation of the Women's Flag Football Program.
- Demonstrate mindfulness of the overall health and well-being of all football athletes.
- Assist in the physical, intellectual and social growth of the student athletes; be responsible for any and all discipline actions within the team setting.
- Manage and assist in fundraising for the university and football programs.
- Participate in designated alumni and community functions.
- Other athletic department tasks which may include but are not limited to athletic game management, inter-departmental mentorship, public speaking, and hiring athletic department staff.
- Adhere to and enforce all policies and procedures as stated in Wittenberg's athletics department, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.
- Adhere to departmental procedures relative to purchasing and travel expenditures.
- Schedule facilities as needed with the athletic facilities staff.
- Maintain and have thorough knowledge of NCAA, conference, and institutional rules and regulations.
- Report any alleged violations of NCAA, NCAC, or institutional rules and regulations.
- Assign coaching responsibilities for all practices and sport contests. Assign and supervise duties for assistant coaches if applicable and perform annual written evaluations of assistant coaches. The head coach is directly responsible for the actions of each assigned assistant and volunteer coach.
- Monitor and submit all work study hours of student employees and contracts.
Requirements:
A bachelor's degree and at least 5-7 years' experience are required. A master's degree is preferred.
Candidates must:
- Possess excellent organizational and communication skills
- Be able to interact effectively and appropriately with student-athletes, parents, alumni, faculty, peers, community members, and administrators
- Possess the skills to evaluate prospects, maintain and ensure student-athlete academic integrity
- Demonstrate a commitment to the mission and values of Wittenberg University and Division III
- Comply with NCAA, conference, and university rules and regulations.
- Ability to remain in a stationary position for several hours.
- Ability to transport up to 40 pounds.
The successful candidate will be proficient with FrontRush, SLATE, HUDL, Microsoft office, and social media platforms.
A valid driver's license is required; must meet required insurance qualifications found in Wittenberg Motor Pool policies and procedures. If license is from out of state, successful candidate will need to obtain a valid Ohio driver's license within 30 days of hire date.
Ability to travel and to work nights and weekends is required.
