Job Description
Firefighters perform general duty firefighting work, including fire suppression, rescue operations, and emergency medical assistance. Responsibilities extend to maintaining equipment readiness and adhering to procedures that protect life and property. Firefighters may also operate fire apparatus and perform duties related to fire inspection. This role requires physical exertion and the ability to respond quickly in emergencies. Firefighters work under a para-military structure with assignments from superior officers.

Essential Job Functions
Respond to alarms and assist in fire suppression activities, including rescue, entry, ventilation, and salvage.
Drive fire vehicles to emergencies, operate pumpers, and manage aerial ladders.
Maintain the fire station, repair equipment, and participate in ongoing training to enhance preparedness.
Operate medical equipment, including telemetry and patient monitoring devices, and respond to emergency medical calls.
Conduct fire prevention education and participate in hydrant and equipment inspections.
Perform related duties as required to support Fire Department operations.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
Ability to learn firefighting techniques, fire inspection, and emergency medical skills.
Capacity to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
Quick and calm response in emergencies, functioning as an effective team member.
High moral character and trustworthiness required for public safety roles.
General intelligence and mechanical aptitude to operate specialized equipment.
Commitment to maintain proficiency in emergency care and equipment operation.
Training, Education, and Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:

Age: 18 at time of examination and under 41 at time of appointment.
Education: High school diploma or GED.
Driver's License: Valid license required at time of appointment.
Medical Examination: Must pass a comprehensive medical examination, including vision screening with specific standards for visual acuity.
Certifications: Candidates must either possess or be able to earn the following certifications:
Ohio Firefighter II Certification
EMT-Basic certification (State of Ohio)
EMT-Paramedic certification (State of Ohio)
Candidates not yet certified as Firefighter II or Paramedic must successfully complete the Work Keys assessment before hire. Candidates accepted for hire must complete Paramedic certification within three years of employment.
