Technician I

The Tallmadge Civil Service Commission is accepting applications for the position of Technician I. This position requires a Class A driver’s license with a Tanker Endorsement (Type N). A Level 1 Water Operator License will be required within two years and Backflow Certification will be required after hire. Under general direction, the Technician I (Utilities) performs manual labor, semi-skilled and unskilled tasks, of repetitive nature, for the Utilities department(s) as needed.

Unskilled Labor:

• Performs concrete, carpentry and masonry work
• Reads instructional maps and/or blueprints
• Install underground pipe
• Within scope of authority, answers customer questions and complaints
• Proficient at operating sewer inspection cameras (both crawler and push) can
• conduct complete surveys of sewer lines
• Use water tap machine
• Flush fire hydrants
• Locate pipes and water shut offs
• Install water meters and pits
• Run valve machine
• Read Meters and understands meter reading equipment
• Test meters for accuracy

General Labor:

• Perform rough carpentry
• Cleans storm water systems
• Performs tasks with the installation, maintenance and repair of water/sewer lines, hydrants, valves, pumps, service connections and meter pits, manholes and other water/sewer related structures
• Performs various custodial duties in department facilities
• Reads water meters and records readings
• Take chlorine and fluoride reads
• Cut pipe and install

Storm Sewer:

• Cleans storm water systems, ditches and catch basins

Equipment Maintenance/Repair:

• Performs routine service and repair on equipment:
• Checks fluid levels
• Tightens bolts
• Lubricates fittings
• Wash and clean equipment
• Weld and/or fabricate mild metal parts
• Laser/ Transit
• Hole hog boring machine
• Sewer televising truck (including operation of cameras)

Equipment Operation:

• Loader
• Dump truck and trailer
• Small truck
• Rental equipment
• Fork lift
• Bucket truck
• Vac Truck
• Backhoe
• Excavator

Miscellaneous:

• Answer telephone
• Assist in the maintenance of department records
• Attend meetings and serves on temporary committees, as requested
• Maintain and increases knowledge and skills through attendance at meeting conferences, training seminars and in-service training session
• Perform additional duties and assignments, as requested
