Registered Respiratory Therapist - Emergency Department

The Main Campus Emergency Department treats over 61,000 patients annually, providing a critical link to healthcare for our community, the region and the world (through Cleveland Clinic Critical Care Transport). As a Registered Respiratory Therapist, you will provide evidence-based clinical care to some of the most critically ill patients in the United States. You will care for adult, pediatric and/or neonatal patient populations, evaluate, treat and care for patients with a wide range of lung diseases and respiratory disorders, such as asthma, bronchitis, cystic fibrosis, emphysema, COPD and lung cancer. RRTs in our ED also perform muti-skilled duties such as IV insertion, ECGs, peripheral phlebotomy, and they have high autonomy in this multi-skilled role. This role provides an invaluable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a busy trauma environment and work with a multidisciplinary team collaborating with Registered Nurses, Physicians and other caregivers to deliver efficient, high-quality patient care. **A caregiver in this position works nights, 7:00pm-7:30am, with rotating weekend and holiday requirements.** A caregiver who excels in this role will: + Provide assessment, treatment, care and evaluation to patients with respiratory insufficiencies. + Implement and monitor patient care plans. + Assess patients for the appropriate type and frequency of treatment and develop, implement and monitor patient care plans. + Monitor, record and communicate patients' conditions. + Perform advanced respiratory care modalities, evaluate respiratory practice, administer medications and treatments, and perform blood gas puncture and analysis. + Educate patients and families about the illness and provide information about community support groups and other programs. Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: + Associate's Degree and graduate of a CoARC accredited Respiratory Therapy program + Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) + Ohio Respiratory Care Professional (RCP) Board Licensure. + Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: + Prior experience in critical care. + Bachelor's degree. + Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Neonatal Pediatric Specialist (NPS) certification.
