Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/Neuroscience Intermediate Care position requiring Epic proficiency, ventilator experience, and the ability to pass an EKG telemetry competency assessment prior to starting.
Details
- 36-bed Neuroscience/High-Risk Respiratory intermediate care unit in a hospital setting
- Mixed acuity unit serving med-surge and intermediate care patients, including CVA, TIA, seizures, and high-risk respiratory cases
- Targeted patient ratio of 1:4–6; candidates must demonstrate 1:5 ratio experience in a stepdown or PCU setting
- Uses a team nursing model in which RNs, LPNs, and PCTs partner to care for patient groups; nurses may function in team or primary nursing based on unit needs
- Specialized equipment in use includes heated high-flow nasal cannula and BiPAP
- Epic EMR required
- Night shift, 4x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
- Travelers are first to float at the facility's discretion, within specialty clusters and to medically appropriate assignments, including high-risk respiratory and COVID units
- Floating may include the main campus (Dayton), south campus (Centerville, <10 miles), and north campus (Englewood, <15 miles)
- Every other weekend and holiday coverage required
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active OH RN license or compact RN license required; candidates with any past license disciplinary action will not be accepted
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
- Minimum 1.5 years of RN experience required
- PCU or stepdown experience required; ICU experience does not substitute for PCU/stepdown experience at this facility
- Ventilator experience required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Must pass an online EKG/telemetry competency assessment prior to starting the assignment
- Proficiency with cardiac telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation and management
- Experience with BiPAP/CPAP management and high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC)
- Experience with central line care, PICC line management, and IV starts
- Experience managing vasoactive and cardiac drips, heparin protocols, and PCA
- Candidates must be comfortable floating with no restrictions, per the floating requirements outlined
Additional Information
- Preferred certifications and skills include IV start proficiency, phlebotomy, port access/management, and trauma level I experience
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Travel nursing experience preferred but not required; first-time travelers will be considered
- Provides care to a diverse patient population including CVA, TIA, seizures, and high-risk respiratory patients; may float to the Neuro ICU with a buddy assigned
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Up to 24 hours of orientation modules are required
- Lab work and the EKG/dysrhythmia exam must be completed within 72 hours of signing the contract
- RTO must be requested at the time of initial submission; no RTO will be added after an offer is made, with a maximum of 14 days allowed per contract
- Candidates who previously worked at Premier Health Partners or any prior agency in a permanent or PRN capacity must wait 6 months before being considered; facility rehire approval is required
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates are not accepted
